CRISTIE KERR CAPTURES MICHELOB ULTRA OPEN PLAYING NEW 2009 PRO V1Daniel Vancsik Relies Upon New 2009 Pro V1x in Six-Shot Victory at Italian Open
Fairhaven, MA (May 11, 2009) - It was an all-New 2009 Pro V1 finish on the LPGA Tour as the four finishers at the Michelob Ultra Open all relied upon the New 2009 Pro V1 for their success. Cristie Kerr emerged from a four-way tie for the final round lead with a birdie on the 15th hole, ultimately shooting a 1-under 70 to win the event for the second time. Kerr's 16-under 286 total was two shots better than In-Kyung Kim, who posted a 14-under 270 following an even-par final round 70. Song-Hee Kim and Lindsey Wright tied for 3rd, another shot back. Titleist New 2009 Pro V1x player Wendy Ward finished solo 5th at 11-under 273.
Kerr, who becomes the event’s only two-time winner, moved to the top of the 2009 LPGA Tour money list. The victory is the 12th of her career. Titleist was the most played golf ball at the Michelob Ultra Open at Kingsmill with 107 players (69%), compared to 26 for the nearest competitor.
EUROPEAN TOUR: The New 2009 Pro V1x was the golf ball choice of Daniel Vancsik, who posted a six-stroke victory at the BMW Italian Open, closing with a 6-under-par 65 for a 17-under 267 total. It marked the second career title for Vancsik. Vancsik was one of only two players, both of whom played the New 2009 Pro V1x, to shoot four consecutive rounds in the 60's. Titleist was the most played golf ball at the BMW Italian Open with 99 players (69%), compared to 31 for the nearest competitor. Vancsik's win marks the 11th by Titleist golf ball players on the 2009 European Tour, compared to 4 for the nearest competitor.
PGA TOUR: Pro V1x loyalist Ian Poulter (Pro V1x, Cobra S9-1 F Speed driver, Cobra X-Speed and 906F2 fairway metals, 909H hybrid, King Cobra Pro CB and MB irons, Vokey Design Spin Milled wedges), closed with a 2-under 70 to finish in solo 2nd at the PLAYERS Championship. Titleist Brand Ambassador Kevin Na (Pro V1x, 909D3 driver, Cobra X-Speed and 909 F2 fairway metals, Cobra Baffler Pro hybrid, AP2 irons, Vokey Design sand wedge, Spin Milled lob wedge, Scotty Cameron Newport SLT T-10 putter) and John Mallinger (Pro V1x) tied for 3rd, another shot back. Titleist Brand Ambassador Ben Crane (New 2009 Pro V1x, 909D2 driver, AP2 irons, Vokey Design gap wedge, Vokey Spin Milled sand and lob wedges) birdied the final hole to tie two other players for 5th at 6-under 282.
Titleist was the most played golf ball at the PLAYERS with 97 players (67%), compared to 16 for the nearest competitor. Titleist was also first in iron sets (40), wedges (146) and putters (59), and second in drivers (36) and fairway metals (54).
WORLDWIDE WINS: The wins by Kerr and Vancsik advances Titleist’s 2009 worldwide win count to 47, nearly four times more than the nearest competitor with 12, and more than all other golf balls combined.
