Twenty Titleist Players Advance to TOUR Championship in FedEx Cup Playoffs.
Fairhaven, MA (September 14, 2009) - Titleist continues to win the world over. Last week, Titleist Brand Ambassador Steve Stricker relied upon the Pro V1 golf ball and a full bag of Titleist equipment to earn a victory at the Deutsche Bank Championship and advance to No. 2 in the Official World Golf Rankings. This week, Titleist players accounted for four more wins, including James Kingston, Jiyai Shin, Josh Teater and Thaworn Wiratchant on the European, LPGA, Nationwide and Asian Tours, respectively. The 4-win week brings Titleist’s cumulative victory total across the worldwide professional tours in 2009 to 112, more than five times the nearest competitor with 22.
PGA: Following the third FedEx Cup Playoffs event, the BMW Championship, 30 players advanced to the TOUR Championship in two weeks, including 20 of whom will be placing their trust in a Titleist golf ball. Steve Stricker (2) and Zach Johnson (4) headline a roster of five full product line Titleist Brand Ambassadors who advanced, including Nick Watney (12), Marc Leishman (16) and Kevin Na (18).
Among the additional 15 Titleist golf ball loyalists in the Top-30 are Pro V1 players Scott Verplank (8), Jason Dufner (10), Geoff Ogilvy (13), Brian Gay (17), Mike Weir (27) and John Senden (29). Pro V1x players include Heath Slocum (5), Padraig Harrington (6), Kenny Perry (9), David Toms (19), Hunter Mahan (23), Angel Cabrera (24), Steve Marino (25), Luke Donald (28) and Jerry Kelly (30).
Titleist Brand Ambassador Marc Leishman tied for 2nd at the BMW Championship relying upon the Pro V1x golf ball, 909D2 driver, 909F2 fairway metal, AP2 irons, Vokey Design pitching and sand wedges, Spin Milled lob wedge and a Scotty Cameron prototype putter. Fellow Titleist Brand Ambassador Zach Johnson also trusted the Pro V1x, 909D2 driver, 909F2 fairway metals, AP2 irons, Vokey Design pitching and sand wedges, and Spin Milled lob wedge, in addition to his 909H hybrid, to round out the Top 5 at Cog Hill.
Titleist was the most played golf ball at the limited-field event with 43 players, more than six times the nearest competitor with 7. Titleist was also first in wedges (53) and putters (22), and second in drivers (15), fairway metals (13), hybrids (T13) and iron sets (13).
EUROPEAN: South African James Kingston (Pro V1x, 906F4 fairway metal, 909H hybrid, AP2 irons, Vokey Design Spin Milled sand and lob wedges, Scotty Cameron Newport 2 SLT T10) topped Anders Hansen (Pro V1x, 906F4 fairway metal, AP2 irons, Vokey Design sand wedge, Spin Milled lob wedge) with a par on the first hole of an all-Titleist Pro V1x sudden death playoff to win the Mercedes-Benz Championship in Cologne. It was the second European Tour victory for Kingston, with his first being the 2008 South African Open Championship. Kingston shot a closing 69 to Hansen's 67, as they each posted 13-under par totals of 275. Titleist Brand Ambassador Soren Hansen (Pro V1x, 909D2 driver, 906F4 3-wood, 980F 5-wood, 670 irons, Vokey Design Spin Milled sand and lob wedges, Scotty Cameron Newport MidSlant putter) was among three players who tied for third place, one shot back.Titleist was the top golf ball choice at the limited field event with 43 players, more than three times the nearest competitor with 14. The win was the 18th for Titleist golf ball players on the 2009 European Tour, more than twice the nearest competitor with 7.
LPGA: It was an all-Pro V1 finish at the P&G Beauty NW Arkansas Championship as Jiyai Shin shot a 7-under 64, then outlasted Angela Stanford and Sun Young Yoo on the second hole of a sudden-death playoff for the victory. The three players finished at 9-under 204 at the 54-hole event. Yoo birdied her final hole to tie Shin for the lead, before the pair was joined by Stanford when she converted a dramatic 18th-hole eagle. Shin sealed the win with a birdie on the second playoff hole. Shin trailed by seven strokes at the beginning of the final round, but her stunning rally secured her third LPGA Tour victory of the year.Pro V1 players Shi Hyun Ahn and Song Hee Kim tied for 4th place at 8-under 205 and Taylor Leon finished a further shot back. In fact, of the 13 players who finished among the top 10 and ties, 12 trusted a Titleist golf ball for their success. Titleist was the most played golf ball at the event with 103 players, compared to 31 for the nearest competitor. The win was the 15th for Titleist golf ball players on the 2009 LPGA Tour, more than five times the nearest competitor with 3.
NATIONWIDE: Josh Teater (Pro V1x, Vokey Design pitching and sand wedges, Spin Milled lob wedge) captured the Utah Championship for his first career Nationwide Tour title with a four-shot win over runner-up and fellow Pro V1x player Tyler Aldridge (Pro V1x, New CB irons, Vokey Design sand wedge, Spin Milled lob wedge). Teater fired four consecutive rounds in the 60's, including a 7-under 64 on Saturday en route to a 20-under 264 total.
Titleist was the most played golf ball at the Utah Open with 102 players, more than five times the nearest competitor with 20. Titleist was also first in wedges (115) and putters (42). Titleist was second in drivers (26) and iron sets (39).
ASIAN: Thaworn Wiratchant (Pro V1x) won the Macau Open to earn his 11th career victory on the Asian Tour. Wiratchant fired a final round 3-under 68 for a 15-under total of 269, six shots clear of runner-up and Titleist Brand Ambassador Gaganjeet Bhullar (Pro V1x, 909D3 driver, 909H hybrid, AP2 irons, Vokey Design Spin Milled sand and lob wedges, Scotty Cameron Studio Select Newport putter). Titleist Brand Ambassador Matthew Griffin (Pro V1x, 909D3 driver, 909F3 fairway metal, ZB irons, Vokey Design gap and sand wedges, Spin Milled lob wedge, Scotty Cameron Studio Select Newport 1 putter) closed with a 6-under 65 to tie for 4th with Keith Horne (Pro V1x), as the top four finishers trusted Titleist golf balls for their success. A total of 101 players (70%) relied upon Titleist golf balls at the Macau Open, more than five times the nearest competitor with 17.
