TITLEIST STAFF MEMBER JACK BARBER NAMED PGA GOLF PROFESSIONAL OF THE YEARDennis Satyshur Earns Bill Strausbaugh Award; Andy Weissinger Wins Patriot Award.
Fairhaven, MA (October 19, 2009) - Jack Barber, PGA head professional at Meridian Hills Country Club in Indianapolis, Ind., whose leadership efforts for more than three decades have been a study in inspiring youth and aspiring PGA Professionals, has been named the 56th recipient of the PGA Golf Professional of the Year Award. The award was established in 1955 to honor the working PGA Professional whose total contributions to the game best exemplify the complete PGA Professional. It is the highest annual honor bestowed by The PGA of America on a PGA Professional. Barber is a 33-year member of The PGA of America and a longtime Titleist Staff Member, including the past 24 years at Meridian Hills.

As an indication of Jack’s influence on and devotion to helping others is the fact that nine of his former assistants are currently head PGA professionals. In addition, the junior program at Meridian Hills has grown from 15 players to over 150 since Jack’s arrival.
Bill Strausbaugh Award Winner
Dennis Satyshur, the PGA director of golf at Caves Valley Golf Club in Ownings Mills, Md., has been named recipient of the 2009 Bill Strausbaugh Award for distinguished efforts in mentoring other PGA professionals and supporting them in both employment and through community service. Satyshur is a 30-year member of The PGA of America and a longtime Titleist Staff Member. The award is especially meaningful to Satyshur who worked for Strausbaugh at Columbia (Md.) Country Club as an assistant.
“It is fitting that Dennis receive this award given his relationship with and respect for the late Bill Strausbaugh,” said Wally Uihlein, Chairman and CEO, Acushnet Company. “Bill set a high standard for other Middle Atlantic PGA Professionals, and Dennis has established his own benchmarks along the way. His reputation as one of the premier mentors of future golf professionals in the industry is well deserved. That is evident by the 29 former assistants under his direction who have gone on to work as either PGA head professionals or PGA directors of instruction.”
The Patriot Award
Andy Weissinger, PGA head professional at The Pines Golf Course at Fort Eustis, Va., has been named the recipient of the 2009 Patriot Award. The award originated in 2008 following the inspiration of Patriot Golf Day founder Major Dan Rooney, a PGA Professional from Broken Arrow, Okla. It is presented by The PGA of America to PGA Professionals who personify and demonstrate unwavering commitment and dedication to the men and women who have valiantly served and protected the United States of America.
Weissinger was elected to PGA membership in 2001 was cited by the Middle Atlantic PGA for his contributions in player development at The Pines. In 2007, his success was recognized by the U.S. Army, which selected him to coach its men’s and women’s golf teams. He has implemented several innovative programs at Fort Eustis incorporating enlisted soldiers and their families.
“Andy is in a unique situation at The Pines and Fort Eustis, and is the ideal PGA Professional to succeed at his position,” said Wally Uihlein, Chairman and CEO, Acushnet Company. “He has the ability to help everybody find a way to enjoy the game, whether they are young or old, newcomers or low handicappers. The wide-ranging programs that he has implemented at The Pines allows our military and their families to spend more quality and enjoyable time together. I know it energizes Andy, and I am sure it does the same for the hundreds of the golfers he touches each year.”
Barber and Satyshur will be recognized at The PGA of America Awards, Thursday, Jan. 28, 2010, during the 57th PGA Merchandise Show at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla. Weissinger will be honored in November at the 93rd PGA Annual Meeting in New Orleans.
