ANOTHER SUPER SUNDAY FOR STRICKER, TITLEIST.Brand Ambassador Captures Northern Trust Open.
Fifth Straight Win by Titleist Player to Start 2010 PGA TOUR.
Fairhaven, MA (February 8, 2010) - It was another super Sunday for Titleist, as Steve Stricker posted a two-shot victory at the Northern Trust Open. It marked the eighth career PGA TOUR title for Stricker, including the fourth in his last 15 starts, and vaulted him to No. 2 in the Official World Golf Rankings. The Titleist Brand Ambassador places his trust in the Pro V1 and a bag full of Titleist equipment for his success.
PERFECT FIVE: It is shaping up to be a stellar year on the 2010 PGA TOUR for Titleist, as Stricker’s victory makes it five consecutive wins by Titleist golf ball loyalists. Stricker joins full-line Titleist Brand Ambassadors Geoff Ogilvy (SBS) and Bill Haas (Bob Hope) in the Winner’s Circle, as well as Ryan Palmer (Sony) and Ben Crane (Farmers Insurance).
IRONS IN THE FIRE: In addition to the five golf ball wins this year, all five PGA TOUR winners have also relied upon Titleist irons for their success. Geoff Ogilvy won with the New MB irons the first time he put them into play at the SBS Championship, while Bill Haas earned his first career victory playing the New CB’s. Stricker uses the 755’s. The Sony Open and Farmers Insurance Open winners both played the AP2.
RIVIERA ROUNDUP: While Stricker closed with a one-under par 70 for the emotional victory, playing partner and Pro V1x loyalist Luke Donald kept the pressure on all day. Donald fired a final round 6-under 66, finishing two shots behind Stricker’s 16-under 268 total. Pro V1x loyalist J.B. Holmes, who was among the final threesome, shot a final round 5-under 67 to earn a share of third place at 13-under 271. Paul Goydos (Pro V1) matched the low score of the final round with a 6-under 65 and a four-way tie for fifth, that included Steve Marino (Pro V1x).
#1 BALL, IRON, HYBRID, WEDGE and PUTTER: Titleist was the overwhelming GOLF BALL of choice at the event with 79 players, more than four times the nearest competitor with 18. Titleist was also first in IRON SETS with 35; HYBRIDS (27); SAND, LOB and APPROACH WEDGES with 100, nearly double the nearest competitor with 51; and PUTTERS with 46 (35%). Titleist was also second in DRIVERS (33) and FAIRWAY METALS (28).
EUROPEAN: Lee Westwood (Pro V1x) finished runner-up at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic, losing on the third hole of a sudden-death playoff. The pair finished regulation at 11-under 277. Westwood birdied the final hole of regulation to earn his place in the playoff. It marked his 13th top 10 finish in his last 16 events. Defending champion and Titleist Brand Ambassador Rory McIlroy (Pro V1x, 909D2 driver, 909F2 3-wood, 906F2 5-wood, New MB irons, Vokey Design Spin Milled C-C pitching, sand and lob wedges, Scotty Cameron Studio Select Fastback putter) tied for sixth place, three shots out of the playoff.
Titleist was the GOLF BALL choice at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic with 72 players, three times the nearest competitor with 24. Titleist was also first in IRON SETS with 33, and SAND, LOB and APPROACH WEDGES with 111.
NATIONWIDE: Jim Herman (Pro V1x) won the Moonah Classic for his first Nationwide Tour title with a birdie on the first hole of a playoff with Titleist Brand Ambassador Chris Kirk (Pro V1x , 909D3 driver, 906F4 and 909F2 fairway metals, CB/3-5 and 670/6-9 irons, Vokey Design Spin Milled wedges, Scotty Cameron Newport Squareback putter). Herman and Kirk closed with 2-under 70s to finish at 11-under 277. Herman opened with a course-record 62 and led or held a share of the lead after each round. Titleist Brand Ambassador Robert Gates (Pro V1x, 909D3 driver, 909F3 fairway metal, CB/2 and MB/4-P irons, Vokey Design Spin Milled wedges, Scotty Cameron Newport Fastback putter), the New Zealand Open winner last week in his Nationwide debut, shot a 6-under 66 to finish in solo third place at 10-under 278.#1 ACROSS THE BOARD: Titleist was the overwhelming GOLF BALL of choice at the Moonah Classic with 105 players (67%), more than five times the nearest competitor with 19. Titleist was also first in DRIVERS with 52 (33%); IRON SETS with 63 (40%), SAND, LOB and APPROACH WEDGES with 184 (52%); and PUTTERS with 51 (33%).
ASIAN TOUR: Titleist Brand Ambassador, 21-year old Gaganjeet Bhullar of India (Pro V1x, 909D2 driver, AP2 irons, Vokey Design Spin Milled pitching, sand and lob wedges, Scotty Cameron Studio Select Newport 2 putter), won the season-opening Asian Tour International in Thailand, for his second career Asian Tour title. Six shots behind the leader entering the final round, Bhullar closed with a bogey-free, course record eight-under par 64 to beat Hwang Inn-choon of Korea (Pro V1x) by one shot. Bhullar had an eagle and four birdies in the front nine and posted two more birdies on the back nine, including one on the final hole to clinch the victory.
Titleist was the golf ball of choice at the Asian Tour International with 96 players (67%), nearly five times the nearest competitor with 20. In fact, 10 of the 12 players who finished among the top 10 and ties relied upon Titleist for their success. Titleist was also top choice of the field in hybrids, iron sets and wedges.
