TITLEIST. THE GOLF BALL MORE U.S. AMATEUR COMPETITORS COUNT ON.
Fairhaven, MA (August 25, 2003) - When the country's top amateurs gathered at Oakmont CC to compete for the national championship, 286 players in the field of 312, nearly 92 percent, made Titleist the overwhelming #1 golf ball choice, compared to just 9 players for the nearest competitor. In fact, all eight quarterfinalists relied upon the New Pro V1 or Pro V1x golf ball for their success. The dramatic final saw the newly crowned champion win on the 37th hole after the two competitors finished the scheduled 36-hole match all square.
The champion, who is the first winner from Australia in 100 years, relied upon the Pro V1x golf ball and 14 Titleist golf clubs in his victory. His bag includes the new Titleist Titaniuim 983K driver (9.5), 980F fairway metal (15.0), Forged 690MB irons (2-PW), Vokey Design sand (54) and lob (60) wedges and a Scotty Cameron by Titleist Newport 2.5 putter.
Below is the golf ball count from the 2003 U.S. Amateur:
