Futura Long Putter Deemed Non-conforming.
The Futura Long putter is non-conforming according to the USGA and R&A Rules of Golf and cannot be used for competitive play. Please note there is no grace period or grandfathering clause. If you own a Scotty Cameron by Titleist Futura Long putter please see the below instructions for returning your putter to Titleist. Please note, only the Futura Long is non-conforming. This ruling does not affect the standard Futura or Futura Mid models, which remain conforming to the Rules of Golf.
New Conforming Futura Long Putter
Scotty Cameron has redesigned the sole of the Futura Long putter to make it conforming to both USGA and R&A rules. To make your putter conforming Titleist will replace the existing face with the redesigned conforming face. Please note that we will not be providing new putters for those returned, only the face will be replaced.
All returns and face replacement will be handled through Acushnet Golf Club Customer Service and Repairs located in Carlsbad, CA. If you have a Futura Long putter to return please call us at 1-800-742-7609 to obtain a Return Authorization Number and instructions on how and where to ship your putter. You can also choose to return your putter through the authorized Titleist Golf Shop where you purchased the putter. Titleist will pay all freight charges. Please note however that Titleist will not accept any putters without a Return Authorization Number.
The USGA and R&A have deemed the Futura Long putter to have a "very curved sole". This allows the putter to be grounded in a position where the shaft is close to or past vertical. See the picture below on the right. The rules state that the shaft of a putter must diverge from the vertical by at least 10 degrees. Futura Long does not meet this requirement when soled in the manner below on the right. There are several pages from the USGA's and R&A's "A Guide to the Rules On Clubs and Balls" that clearly explain the issue if you require a more detailed explanation. This booklet was published in January 2003 and is available in the Equipment Section on the USGA and R&A websites.
We appreciate your support of the Titleist brand and its family of high performance products. We remain dedicated to making the finest golf equipment in the world and thank you for your understanding and patience as we resolve this issue with the Scotty Cameron by Titleist Futura Long putter.
