Retief Goosen Wins 2nd U.S. Open Title |
Fairhaven, MA (June 21, 2004) - Once again, Retief Goosen has proven that he has what it takes when it matters most. Talent, tenacity and Titleist. Trusting the Titleist Pro V1x golf ball, Goosen displayed the mettle and consistency of a proven champion. His focused performance, including 12 one-putt greens in the final round, was enough to hold off Titleist brand ambassador and Masters winner Phil Mickelson and Pro V1 player Jeff Maggert to secure his 2nd U.S. Open Championship in four years. It was a 1-2-3 finish for Titleist on a leaderboard that featured 8 Titleist players among the top 10 and ties. It also marks Titleist's 20th victory through the first 25 events of the 2004 PGA Tour season, 10 times more than the nearest competitor with 2.

Cristie Kerr Wins 3rd LPGA Tour title. |
LPGA Tour: Titleist Pro V1 player Cristie Kerr captured her third career LPGA Tour title and second of the year with a one-stroke win at the ShopRite LPGA Classic. There was a two-way tie for second, one of whom played the Pro V1x in her effort to become the first amateur since 1969 to win an LPGA event. Kerr converted an 8-foot birdie putt on the final hole to secure the win. The victory is the fifth for Titleist golf ball players on the LPGA Tour this season.
Nationwide Tour: It was an all-Pro V1x playoff at the Northeast Pennsylvania Classic where D.A. Points defeated James Driscoll on the first extra hole. Points carded a final round 4-under-par to get to 14-under and then watched Driscoll roll in a 25-foot bride putt on the final hold to force the playoff. Titleist golf ball players have captured 9 of the first 13 events on the 2004 Nationwide Tour, more than four times the nearest competitor.
