Titleist Ball Plant III Named OSHA VPP Star SiteU.S. Assistant Secretary of Labor Edwin G. Foulke Jr. Honors Titleist Associates at Flag-Raising Ceremony
FAIRHAVEN, MA (July 7, 2006) – Acushnet Company, manufacturer of Titleist and Pinnacle golf balls, announced its Ball Plant III has been selected to receive Star Site status from the office of the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) under the prestigious Voluntary Protection Program (VPP). Star Site status is presented to an organization whose safety management programs go beyond OSHA standards in their ability to protect workers and create an environment of motivation and confidence in the organization's safety and health programs. VPP sites are "best in class" and, therefore, a select group of facilities.
Daniel Gendreau, Sr. Director of Golf Ball Operations BPIII, accepted the award from U.S. Assistant Secretary of Labor Edwin G. Foulke on behalf of the Ball Plant III associates in a flag-raising ceremony held at the manufacturing facility in the New Bedford Business Park.
Ball Plant III joins its fellow Acushnet Company in achieving Star Site status. In May of 1996, Titleist Ball Plant I was named as the first VPP Star Site recipient in the sporting goods industry. Titleist Custom Golf Ball Operations, located in New Bedford, and Acushnet Company Packaging Center, in Fairhaven, also earned VPP Star Site status in 1998 and 2001, respectively. In 2003, Titleist Ball Plant II, located in the New Bedford Business Park, became the 1,000th recipient of federal VPP Star Site status.
"We are extremely proud of our Ball Plant III associates for their continuing commitment to safety and health programs and are once again honored that OSHA has recognized them and Titleist for VPP Star status," said Herb Boehm, Executive Vice President and General Manager Golf Ball Operations of Acushnet Company. "We would especially like to thank Assistant Secretary Foulke for attending this celebration and recognizing the performance of our hundreds of associates, who take pride in their work and performance each and every day. We are also pleased to have Senator Montigny with us today and deeply appreciate his congratulatory remarks on behalf of our associates."
"The Voluntary Protection Program is the Labor Department's premier initiative to promote and recognize excellence in occupational safety and health," said Eric Bartsch, Vice President Golf Ball Manufacturing. "The employees and management of Titleist Ball Plant III are to be congratulated for achieving OSHA's official recognition for their outstanding efforts."
