PGA Tour Pro Jonathan Byrd Demonstrates His Total Body Workout on the Next ''Golf Fitness Academy presented by Titleist''
On the next all-new episode of Golf Fitness Academy, co-hosts Dr. Greg Rose and Dave Phillips are joined by PGA Tour professional Jonathan Byrd and Randy Myers, Director of Fitness at the Sea Island Resort, Sea Island, Georgia. Randy guides Jonathan through one of his normal workout routines, focusing on power and weight training, to show viewers how they can properly workout in the gym before a round without harming their golf game.
Jonathan began working out in high school but didn’t focus on golf-specific exercises until encountering problems when he was at Clemson. His muscles were tight and didn’t have the flexibility necessary for playing a lot of golf which resulted in injuries which still occur today. This workout routine from Randy Myers demonstrates the importance of working together with fitness instructors and swing coaches to develop a program that builds muscle strength, endurance and flexibility but focuses on getting the body ready to play golf. The episode begins with a segment on Power, followed by Weight Training and, finally, a demonstration of the Power Plate machine which loosens muscles and focuses on the joints.
Episode 9: Jonathan Byrd airs Wednesday, June 20, at 10:30 p.m. EDT. It will re-air June 21 at 2 a.m., June 23 at 6:00 a.m., June 25 at 6:30 p.m., and June 26 at 5:30 a.m.
During this season’s “Player Series,” Rose and Phillips, cofounders of the Titleist Performance Institute, offer tips that directly relate to producing a better all-around golf game. They address a range of topics with the help of players from the PGA and LPGA Tours including Charley Hoffman, Brett Quigley, Troy Matteson, Brad Faxon, Minea Blomqvist, Charles Warren, Jonathan Byrd and Laura Diaz, as well as Villegas and Masters Champion Zach Johnson, who was on the series premiere. Special guests from the golf and fitness communities also provide valuable information for golfers of all abilities. The Golf Fitness Academy sessions were filmed at the state-of-the-art Spa & Fitness Facility at the Sea Island Resort in Sea Island, Georgia, and the Titleist Performance Institute in Oceanside, California.

Born in England and raised in Africa and Australia, Dave has had the unique experience of playing with and instructing some of the game’s greatest golfers worldwide.
