Video: On the Range with the #1 Ball in Golf at the Crowne Plaza Invitational

Posted: May 24, 2013

Team Titleist is in Fort Worth, this week for the longest running event on the PGA Tour still being held at the original site, The Crowne Plaza Invitational.

Colonial Country Club first hosted the event in 1946 and has a storied list of competitors. This week's field is filled with talent and 90 players in the field of 136 will trust a Titleist Pro V1 or Pro V1x golf ball for their success, more than six times the nearest competitor with 14 and more than all competitors combined.

Titleist is also first in the sand, lob and approach wedge (141) and putter (49) categories.

From the Titleist Tour truck to the practice range, the Team Titleist lenses were capturing the action as Titleist Brand Ambassadors and golf ball loyalists spent the early part of the week dialing in their games and their equipment.

Check out the video above to go inside the ropes at Colonial CC to see what defending champion Zach Johnson, Jason Dufner, Morgan Hoffmann, Matt Jones, Tom Gillis, Brendan Steele, and Martin Flores (among others) were up to this week.

Titleist Brand Ambassador Peter Uihlein Leads 4-Win Weekend for Titleist Golf Ball Players

Posted: May 20, 2013

Around the globe Sunday, four players relying on a Titleist golf ball were victorious on three continents, proving once again that performance is the Titleist Pro V1 and Pro V1x.

In Portugal, Titleist Brand Ambassador Peter Uihlein won the Madeira Islands Open with a final round 4-under par 68 to earn his first career European Tour title. In the U.S., Titleist Brand Ambassador Mark Anderson and his tournament record-breaking 27-under 259 total captured the BMW Charity Pro-Am on the Web.Com Tour. The third player in the winner's circle, Titleist Brand Ambassador Matthew Griffin posted a 54-hole total of 13-under par 203 to win the weather-shortened SK Telecom Open on the OneAsia Tour in Korea. And in Mexico, Titleist Brand Ambassador Jorge Fernández-Valdés became the youngest winner in the history of PGA TOUR Latinoamérica with an 11-under par 277 victory total at the Mundo Maya Open.

With four more wins, Titleist Pro V1 and Pro V1x loyalists have now won 58 tournaments on the worldwide professional tours in 2013, nearly four times the nearest competitor with 15 and more than all other competitors combined.

This is Team Titleist, let’s wrap-up the week…

EUROPEAN: Madeira Islands Open

Winner: Titleist Brand Ambassador Peter Uihlein

Uihlein, the 23-year-old American, relied on his Pro V1x golf ball to tally four consecutive birdies on the back nine to vault him to the top of the leaderboard, two shots clear of fellow Titleist Brand Ambassadors and Pro V1x loyalists Morten Orum Madsen and Mark Tullo, who tied for second place. The victory grants Uihlein a European Tour exemption through 2014 and marks the first time an American has won the Madeira Islands Open.

“I’m just thrilled,” said Uihlein in an interview. “To do it playing well on the back nine, coming down the stretch, is sweet. I know Morten played a heck of a round and Mark played really well so it was nice to come out on top."

Of the 156-player field, 116 relied upon a Titleist golf ball, more than five times the nearest competitor with 21 and more than all other competitors combined.

The final round fireworks began at the the 201-yard par 3 fourth hole where Uihlein's birdie was bested by Tullo's ace. The lead would change hands a few times before Uihlein's string of four birdies culminated on the 14th hole, leaving him atop the leaderboard. A late charge from Madsen wasn't enough and Uihlein hoisted his first trophy.

What’s in Peter Uihlein’s Bag?:  Pro V1x golf ball, 913D3 driver (8.5º), 913Fd fairway metal (13.5º), 712U utility iron (3), 680 irons (4-P), Vokey Design SM4 250.08 (49º), TVD56 (55º), and 60-L (60º) wedges, Scotty Cameron GSS putter.

Member Spotlight: Christian J. (ChristianJ3)

Posted: May 14, 2013

Christian J. is currently focusing on his short game and putting, he loves a slice of pizza and a soda after his round, and he loves when his family joins him on the golf course.

Sounds like a lot of us, doesn't it?

Christian is one of the many passionate, serious, and unique golfers here at Team Titleist. But, when you look at his story, you may see some of yourself.

So, let's get to know Christian in our latest Team Titleist Member Spotlight...

Team Titleist (TT): How did you get started in golf? Who introduced you to the game?

Christian J. (CJ): I was looking for a sport to participate in during the spring, so I thought golf would be something fun to try.  I guess you could say my parents introduced me to it, because it was their idea and said I could use it the rest of my life.  They do not golf though, but I’m trying to get them to start.

TT: As a golfer, what is "performance"?

CJ: As a golfer I would say, Performance is being able to rely on all of my shots given the circumstance.

TT: How do you mark your Titleist?

TT: How often are you thinking about your golf game and getting better? What are you currently working on?

CJ: Constantly! As you can tell, I’m always on this site at school commenting on discussions and blogs. Then at work I’m always thinking about what I could do different with my swing and ways to improve it. Right now I’m focusing on my short game and putting which always can use improvement.

TT: What's your best score and where did you shoot it?

CJ: My best for 9 holes is 39 (+3) at my home course in Avoca, Iowa. It’s a small 9-hole golf course, but is one of the best around this area. I also shot an 82 there once with two 41’s.

TT: Can you recall the best golf shot you've ever hit?

CJ: It was during a high school meet, and I was having a horrible day. I had about 90 yards to the flagstick and ended up hitting the stick, then I watched it roll down the pole into the hole. I could not believe it!

TT: What's the most special moment you've ever had on the golf course?

CJ: I don’t really have a favorite memory, but I do enjoy when my little sister tags along and pretends to be my caddie. She’s only seven, but loves to go with me. Also spending most of my summer days with my cousin Erik golfing.  We’re really close and both love this game.

TT: What's the best piece of golf advice you have ever received?

CJ: Golf is just a game.

TT: What's your favorite Titleist club in the bag?

TT: If you had to play one golf course every day for the rest of your life, which one would it be?

CJ: Augusta National. I love the history involved with the course.

TT: Do you consider yourself a tinkerer? How often do you change equipment?

CJ: Definitely!  Just ask my friends, I’m changing clubs up all the time. My parents generally get a bit irked when I get a package.

TT: How did you hear about Team Titleist?

CJ: I believe it was on Facebook. I saw a competition last year, and decided to join so I could be in the sweepstakes.

TT: Favorite golf movie?

CJ: Easily Caddyshack, it’s my favorite movie in general!

TT: What is your favorite 19th hole meal?

CJ: Anything that I don’t have to pay for! Not the healthiest, but my favorite is pizza and Mountain Dew!

TT: Favorite golf destination?

CJ: I’m still in high school so I haven’t gone on many golfing destinations, but I would love to visit St. Andrews along with Augusta National. Though, I guess as long as I can golf, anywhere would be fine with me.

TT: Do you have any on-course superstitions?

CJ: A bit ridiculous, but I feel awkward when I don’t wear one of my Titleist hats and my sunglasses. Also I have to be wearing golf shoes, tennis shoes don’t cut it!
