I have been playing for over 40 years and never truly came close to a hole in one...until last Sunday. None in the group actually saw it go in the hole...this was on number 11 at Mirimichi, Justin Timberlake's beautiful course in Memphis. This hole is protected by water and one in our group hit 3 in the brink before actually getting it on the green. I hit mine about 3 feet left of the pin and that's about all we saw...as we approached the green we could only see one ball about 20 ft from the hole. I thought I had gone over the green...nope, it was in the hole! The fellow that hit the 3 balls in the water quipped..."man, if I had hit it in the hole I would have made a 7"...what a great game!
This was the 10th annual Redlands Mesa Open held at the Jim Engh design. The amateur event is has both open and senior divisions. On the first hole we played, number 10, a par five, one of the players had a double eagle. The 12th hole we played, #3, a par three was playing 176 yards. I play Titleist AP2 irons and hit a 5 iron. I felt a bit off the toe so I thought I might be a little short of the hole. Since the flag was visible but not the hole, we were not sure were the ball came to rest. As we approached the green, we saw one ball short of the green; it was identified as one of the other player's balls. The third player (who previously had the double eagle) looked in the hole and found my ball! I finished the day with 16 pars, 1 birdie and an ace. Finished the tourney at 2 under and was tied for the low score on the senior side at 142. Ironically all three aces I have are with Titleist Pro V1 balls and each ball is a #1!
We started on the back nine, 10 is a par 3 170. I hit a thin 7 iron to just under a foot from the cup. We were talking about how neither I nor my partner has had a hole in one.(we were in our men's league at the time) He chips in for Eagle on 11 a par 5. the next hole he hits a great shot to about 5 feet. I get up and Pure an 8 iron. He is saying "get in!" and it hits about 1 foot left and 6 inches behind the hole and spins back in for my first ACE. He is jumping up and down and I was excited but also sad as my Dad and long time Golfing buddy had just passed away 2 months earlier and I could not share it with him. So it was bittersweet but I am happy I got one and can now answer that question with a "yes I have had one"

The day before, a friend gave me a another golf ball to try. It just didn't feel good to me. I went back to the ProV1x and BINGO!!! My fifth hole-in-one. 3 hybrid against a little cross and head wind. I hit it right on the button and it never left the pin. It landed about 5" in front of the pin. 190 yards to the pin.
