1st ACE on a chilly March afternoon in Virginia ...

The Shot was on a cold (38°) breezy day in March. Due to the weather, not many on the course, so we went out as a 5some. The hole lasered out at 173 yards, front left pin location, over water, into a shallow green. This was the 4th hole of the day (2nd par 3 hole in the front nine). I was last to swing, as I doubled the previous (par 5) hole ... took a couple practice swings amidst the joking from the peanut gallery as I already faired well but unlucky on the earlier (#2 hole) par 3--landing it pin high and left with about a 12' putt for birdie--my birdie putt reached the hole and hit the rim of the plastic cup insert and it popped out of hole settling for a tap-in par ... after a couple laughs and warmup swings, I swung a 6i with I high charging cut shot that landed about 3' short of the hole, taking one small skip-hop and disappeared into the hole! No cup spit-out this time! This was my first Hole In One after 15 years of playing ... oh and the course AND clubhouse which was all but empty earlier, became full of happy THIRSTY congratulatory jackasses ready to expedite my imminent divorce following my soon to follow credit card bill! Thanks to my good friend, his phone and social media (Facebook, Twitter & Instagram) our 5some grew to approximately 30 fresh faces ready to celebrate on a chilly afternoon in March! FOOOORE!
