Turtle Bay Open Hole in One

Turtle Bay Open Hole in One

Practice round for the Turtle Bay Open turns into a Hole in One day ! Strong winds so I pull my 5 iron from 167 yards hoping the ball lands on the front of the green and doesn’t roll off into the water. Perfect hit right at the flag but it looks like it stopped near the hole. My friend misses the green but his wife hits her ball and it appears to be short or just on the green. I drive up to the green but I only see one ball just on the green short of the flag. I run into the bathroom next to the green thinking her ball might be hidden in a sprinkler head short of the green. Hoping I’m wrong and my ball is in the hole I see her walking up to the pin. I asked her if that’s her ball on the green and she tells me yes as she looks into the hole. She tells me my ball is in the hole and then she asked me if this is my first hole in one. Sweet! First one after 25 years. Later a marshal drives up to me asking if the wind is making my cart go faster down wind. I tell him it made my ball go in the hole. He asked if I chipped it in and I tell him no I got a hole in one. He calls it in to the club house and tells me I will get a Turtle Bay Flag! So I get a sweet Turtle Bay Flag with my name embroidered for my hole in one. I treat Prime Rib dinner at Haleiwa Joes for the three of us to celebrate finally getting a Hole in One on my favorite Palmer course.
