Did it count???

Did it count???

I was playing a round of golf with some friends at Whitetail Golf Resort on Oct 25, 2017. We were told that #10, which is typically a par4, would be playing as a par 3 that day because they were doing some work to the tee box and fairway. When we got to the 10th hole there was a tee box set up about 122 yards out from the green. I hit a Titleist Pro V1 with my Titleist 4 hybrid and FINALLY after 57 years of playing golf I had my first hole-in-one (or so I thought). I even made a few telephone calls before hitting my next tee shot to let some people know I had my first hole-in-one! After the round was over we went into the clubhouse and I told the assistant that I had gotten a hole-in-one. I was given some paperwork to fill out as all of our local courses send the information into the newspaper and the newspaper will put a little article about the hole-in-one in the paper the next day. As I was filling out the paperwork the pro came over and asked which hole I had gotten my hole-in-one on and I told him #10. He looked at me and said that doesn't count then.......WAIT, WHAT!?!?!?!? He said, how can I put in the newspaper that you got a hole-in-one on a hole that is a par 4? I said but it was playing as a par 3 but he was insistent that it didn't count. I cannot tell you how many family members and friends I have shared this story with and all of them have said that it should count as a hole-in-one. One of my sons said that's just sort of "par for the course" when it comes to stories you have to tell about things that happened in your life and I laughed and agreed with him. My son-in-law, unbeknownst to me, sent an email to the USGA explaining to them what had happened and asking for a ruling. The USGA emailed back with 5 different reasons that a hole-in-one be considered valid. The only one that mattered to me was the 4th reason (point D) which read: d. If made at a hole with a temporary tee and/or putting green in use, even if the Committee did not specifically define the teeing ground with tee-markers; the length of the hole at the time should be stated on any certificate. So even though it was a temporary tee box (which the course had set up and marked in this case) according to the USGA it was a par 3 and I got my first hole-in-one! WOOHOO!
