Advanced Performance at the Buick Invitational

Posted: January 25, 2008

We recently unveiled our new line of Titleist Advanced Performance irons, and several of our Tour players have already put the irons into their bags. We were able to catch up with a few of these players this week at the Buick Invitational at Torrey Pines, near our West Coast operations outside of San Diego. I have enjoyed the feel and playability of the 755 irons. Are there any similarities to the new AP2 irons?

Is there a difference in playability and performance between the 755 irons and the new AP2? What shaft options will be available? Great new bags by the way!

In previous posts I noticed that you mentioned Zach Johnson uses Dynamic Gold X100 soft-stepped shafts. Could you please reveal how many times Zach's clubs are soft-stepped? I heard it was a 2 club difference...could you please confirm this for me?

Just a quick question...how are the Z•M Forged irons different than the 695MBs? They look similar except with a different badge - which isn't necessarily a bad thing because they're both great looking irons.

Billy uses a 7.5° 907D1 finished with a 45" X-flex Graphite Design Purple Ice. He is currently our only Tour player using the 907D1.

It is difficult to compare the new Titleist AP irons to previous generations of Titleist irons. We can say that the new Titleist AP2 irons are advanced performance, multi-material, dual cavity, technical forged irons with traditional solid feel, looks and shot control for the skilled player. The stock shaft for the AP2 irons will be Project X 5.5. Custom shaft options will be in accordance with the shaft matrix posted on Titleist.com.

We recommend that you go try the new Titleist irons for yourself when they become available in late March to see how they compare to your current irons.

Zach soft-steps one club.

The Z•M Forged irons are the next generation of the 695MBs, and are high performance, muscle back forged irons with traditional feel, superior looks and shot control for the highly skilled player. We recommend checking them out when they get to golf shops in late March so you can judge for yourself.

I have one more question: What is it about the rumors regarding the 907D4 driver? Will it come out in 2008?

Ashraf Nasser

When will the 755 irons I am playing now leave your line-up, and what will substitute your 735.CM blended set? I have always loved your classic looking clubs as I do not believe in rocket science for golf, so it's time for a deeper glance at your new clubs...
