Posted: March 18, 2008

The new Titleist AP2 irons, which began shipping to golf shops this week, are gaining momentum across the worldwide professional tours and attention by the national publications. Check out this morning's article in USA Today featuring the AP2 irons that are being played with success by Adam Scott and many others on the Titleist Tour staff.

Titleist ambassador Adam Scott is one of the many full-line Titleist players to put the new Titleist AP2 irons in play on tour.

After hitting a bunch of clubs it seems to me that the AP1 falls somewhere between the AP2 (player's club) and something more "game improving." Is this a fair assessment?

I have been playing another manufacturer's irons since I started playing golf about a year ago. I've progressed somewhat quickly and consistently shoot in the high 80s to low 90s. I've been looking to step up to more advanced clubs, but still something that is forgiving enough. Would the AP1s be a good fit for me? What are the biggest differences I would see between the AP1s and my current clubs? Thanks.

Titleist AP1 irons are advanced performance, multi-material, dual cavity irons providing great looks, feel, shot control and higher flight with forgiveness that are targeted for the skilled and aspiring player. Titleist AP2 irons are advanced performance, multi-material, dual cavity, technical forged irons providing traditional solid feel, looks and shot control that are targeted for the skilled player.

Adam was using a prototype AP2 2-iron at the WGC-CA Championship.

What is the stock shaft for the AP2s? Is it the regular Project X or the Flighted version?

As indicated on the AP2 product page on Titleist.com, the stock shaft for AP2 is Project X.

I have always been a fan of Titleist irons. I am actually playing a set from about 10 years ago (DCI 962s w/ Rifle 6.5) and haven't had a reason to switch. I am about a 4 index and have heard the buzz about the new clubs and was thinking of going to a newer iron. I am confused though as to the difference between the AP2 and the Z Forged irons. Any thoughts on which way to go. I have always been a strong iron player especially the short irons. Also, I have been playing the Rifle 6.5 and like the feel. Any thoughts on the best shaft available? I would like to stay with something similar. It would be nice to have something in mind going into it. Thanks!
