From the Buick Open

Posted: June 28, 2008

We were on site earlier this week at Warwick Hills G&CC in Grand Blanc, Mich. as the players prepared for the Buick Open. We showed some photos a couple of weeks ago of players testing new prototype drivers out at Oceanside, and we were able to continue player testing this week at the Buick. In fact, twelve players decided to game one of the new drivers for the tournament this week (11 Titleist 909D2 prototype, 1 Titleist 909D3 prototype). Be sure to check out the photo gallery featuring some of the Titleist ambassadors and staff on hand during the practice days.

Scott Hebert at Professional National Championship.

Posted: June 23, 2008

Congratulations to Scott Hebert, who won the 41st PGA Professional National Championship this week at Reynolds Plantation in Georgia. Scott becomes the ninth Titleist Staff Player to win the event in the past 10 years. A great ambassador for the Titleist brand, Scott is a 39-year old head professional at Grand Traverse Resort & Spa in Acme, Mich. He won the event in dramatic fashion, closing with a final round 4-under-par 68, which included five birdies over the final nine holes for a 31 to win by one shot. The top 20 finishers of the PGA PNC earn invitations to the 90th PGA Championship. It will be an added bonus for Scott that the event will be contested in his home state of Michigan, when it is played from August 7-10 at Oakland Hills Country Club in Bloomfield Township.

Scott Hebert

What's in Scott Hebert's bag?:

On the Practice Tee at TPC River Highlands

Posted: June 21, 2008

We made it over to TPC River Highlands earlier this week to catch up with some of the guys while they practiced for this week's Travelers Championship on the PGA Tour. Check out our photo gallery from the practice areas, and be sure to notice the variety of drills and training aids that the players employ.

Suzy Whaley at The Travelers

Posted: June 20, 2008

This week the PGA Tour has landed at TPC River Highlands for the Travelers Championship. Suzy Whaley, teaching professional at TPC River Highlands (as well as a Titleist Women's Advisory Staff member) was on-hand during the pre-tournament festivities on Tuesday, donating her teaching expertise as part of the PGA's Golf America initiative. Check out a few shots below of Suzy helping out some future Tour players:

Suzy Whaley at The Travelers. In July of 2003, Suzy Whaley gained international recognition by becoming the first woman in 58 years to qualify for and participate in a PGA Tour event. The only other woman to achieve the rare golf feat is the legendary Babe Zaharias, who played in the 1945 Los Angeles Open. Whaley became just the third woman ever to compete on the PGA Tour. To reach that special niche in golf history, Whaley captured the Connecticut PGA Section Championship – also a first by any PGA of America woman professional. (The Connecticut PGA Section Championship included an automatic berth by its champion into the following year’s Greater Hartford Open.) Suzy's highly-publicized entry into the GHO captured the attention of the golfing world and she followed through with a successful and engaging performance in the event. In 1989 Suzy graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and immediately earned her LPGA Tour card. She played for two years on Tour before starting a family and dedicating herself to teaching the game of golf. Her teaching knowledge was cultivated working side by side with world-renowned instructor Jim Flick. Her husband, and golf coach, Bill Whaley has also been instrumental in her ability to recognize student's abilities to improve. Golf is a family affair for the Whaleys. Bill serves as PGA Director of Golf at TPC River Highlands. Among her numerous achievements, Suzy was named Teacher of the Year for the PGA Connecticut section in both 2004 and 2007. She was named a Top 50 golf instructor in Golf for Women Magazine from 2003 to 2007. She has been a regular contributor to The Golf Channel, Golf Digest Magazine, Golf Magazine and Golf for Women Magazine. She has made numerous appearances on CNN, CBS, ABC, NBC and ESPN. In 2003 she was awarded the Bill Strausbaugh Award for the PGA's Connecticut Section. Established in 1979, the Bill Strausbaugh Award is presented to PGA Professionals who by their day-to-day efforts have distinguished themselves by mentoring their fellow PGA Professionals in improving their employment situations and through service to the community. Suzy's commitment to her community and local charitable causes was certainly evident this week, and the game has certainly benefited from her contribution.

Posted: June 19, 2008

The Titleist Tour Van traveled to Greensboro, Georgia for the 41st PGA Professional National Championship, which is being contested at Reynolds Plantation. Over 300 PGA Professionals qualified for this prestigious event, with the Walter Hagen Cup going to the winner and automatic invitations to the 2008 PGA Championship at Oakland Hills reserved for the low 20 finishers. The Titleist tech team was out in full force helping the best PGA Professionals fine tune their equipment for the four-day event, which begins on June 19th. Check out the photo gallery highlighting the action from Reynolds Plantation on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Busy Week at the Titleist Test Facility

Posted: June 17, 2008

With the U.S. Open having been contested at Torrey Pines Golf Course in nearby San Diego, many of our Titleist ambassadors utilized our test facility in Oceanside to get ready for the championship. Practicing at the test facility allowed the players to work with both our Tour reps and the club fitters at Oceanside to ensure that all of their clubs were dialed in. Besides that, it was also a nice place to get away from all of the activity that takes place on the range at a major championship. We also had some of the players test prototype drivers that we have in development. No word yet on when these clubs will be available in golf shops. Be sure to check out the photo gallery featuring players at the test facility.
