Simpson hit all 18 greens in regulation in his 11 birdie, bogey free round. Not only did he lead the field in GIR, he was fifth in driving distance and seventh in putts. A recent graduate of Wake Forest University, Simpson had a stellar senior year winning the ACC Championship and being named ACC player of the year. Upon turning pro in June, Webb was offered a sponsor's exemption into the PGA Tour's Stanford St. Jude's Championship where he made the cut in his first PGA Tour event as a pro. Concentrating on getting his 2009 PGA Tour card via the Nationwide Tour money list Simpson finished 2nd in his first Nationwide Tour event, the Price Cutter Charity Championship, after shooting four consecutive rounds in the 60s. Simpson currently sits on 86th on the Nationwide Tour Official Money List despite playing in just five events this season. A high finish this week would put him in position to play in the Nationwide Tour Championship and provide an opportunity to secure one of the 2009 PGA TOUR Cards available to the top 25 players on the 2008 Nationwide Tour money list. Simpson relies on a full complement of Titleist equipment. In addition to the Pro V1x golf ball, Webb's bag includes the new Titleist 909D3 driver (9.5), 909F2 3-wood (13.5), and 909H hybrid (17), as well as 680 forged irons (3-P), a Vokey Design Spin Milled sand wedge (54), and Spin Milled TVD lob wedge (58).
