From the 2009 Buick Open – Tuesday

Posted: July 28, 2009 is on-site at Warwick Hills Golf & Country Club in Grand Blanc, Michigan for the 51st edition of the Buick Open, a tournament that dates back to 1958. The Titleist Tour Van has been buzzing with even more activity than usual, as this is the first week that it is carrying the next generation AP1, AP2, CB and MB irons that are scheduled to be introduced to the marketplace this fall.

Several players (Greg Chalmers, Derek Fathauer, Bill Haas, Stephen Leaney, Marc Leishman, Darron Stiles, Kevin Na) worked with the new irons on the range for the first time, while others, including Tom Pernice, Jr. (New AP2), Colt Knost (New CB) and Johnson Wagner (New CB) played a practice round with them and decided to put them in the bag this week.

Longtime Titleist Brand Ambassador Brad Faxon, who is also in the field this week, was actually the first to play the New AP2 irons in competition two weeks ago, when he posted his best finish of the year at the U.S. Bank Championship in Milwaukee. A set of the New AP1 irons were also played in competition for the first time in Milwaukee, and will also be in that player's bag this week in Michigan.

Improvements to the new AP2 irons have resulted in better feel as well as improved shot control and ground contact. The new AP1 irons offer better feel, more forgiveness, and an improved shape, particularly in the short irons. Look for more sets to be put into play in the coming weeks, and be sure to check back here and on for the latest information on all Titleist products.

For now, be sure to check out the slide show for more information from the Buick Open.

A lot of activity is taking place this week in the Titleist Tour Van.

I am now beginning my search for new irons.  Been playing my 704 cb's for a long time now.  Very excited to try hitting these.  Have tried other brands, but there is something about Titleist irons I love.  The alignment and feel are unmatched in my opinion.  Not to mention that even the newer irons of other brands still don't go as far as my "old" 704s.  Looking forward to getting these in my hands.  They look SWEET!

Just ordered a set of AP2 irons. I tried them on Tuesday and found them to be incredible, can't wait to get them. Had the full custom fit with my local professional. They were slightly more than i set out to pay, but when comparing them i couldnt have gone for anything else. Finishing them off with two Vokey wedges.

Can you please explain the differences between cast and forged irons, and what sort of handicap each applies to? thanks

Hi Titleist Golf Clubs-

Can I team the mb irons with the cb irons?

for example: pw-8 iron of the MB-Irons and then 7-3 iron of the CB Irons?

would be nice!!!:)

I found the best way to get increased swingweight is, go to a Golf Pride Dual Durometer LITE grip. They can be found online...Golfworks. They add 3 points to swingweight, because it's a 39 gram grip.

AP1 is cast, versus forged for AP2.  AP1 is also going to be larger and more forgiving than AP2, with AP2 offering slightly more workability.  We recommend working with an authorized Titleist FittingWorks partner later in the year when the new clubs become available for fitting to test your current AP2s against the new AP1s.

CB will be the only model to offer a 2-iron.

All of the new iron models will be available for left-handed golfers.

Complete product details will be available on in early fall.  Design changes to AP2 focused on improving the feel of all irons as well as turf interaction of the short irons.
