Titleist.com is on-site at Warwick Hills Golf & Country Club in Grand Blanc, Michigan for the 51st edition of the Buick Open, a tournament that dates back to 1958. The Titleist Tour Van has been buzzing with even more activity than usual, as this is the first week that it is carrying the next generation AP1, AP2, CB and MB irons that are scheduled to be introduced to the marketplace this fall.
Several players (Greg Chalmers, Derek Fathauer, Bill Haas, Stephen Leaney, Marc Leishman, Darron Stiles, Kevin Na) worked with the new irons on the range for the first time, while others, including Tom Pernice, Jr. (New AP2), Colt Knost (New CB) and Johnson Wagner (New CB) played a practice round with them and decided to put them in the bag this week.
Longtime Titleist Brand Ambassador Brad Faxon, who is also in the field this week, was actually the first to play the New AP2 irons in competition two weeks ago, when he posted his best finish of the year at the U.S. Bank Championship in Milwaukee. A set of the New AP1 irons were also played in competition for the first time in Milwaukee, and will also be in that player's bag this week in Michigan.
Improvements to the new AP2 irons have resulted in better feel as well as improved shot control and ground contact. The new AP1 irons offer better feel, more forgiveness, and an improved shape, particularly in the short irons. Look for more sets to be put into play in the coming weeks, and be sure to check back here and on Titleist.com for the latest information on all Titleist products.
For now, be sure to check out the slide show for more information from the Buick Open.
A lot of activity is taking place this week in the Titleist Tour Van.

Hey there Titleist
I am a premier junior golfer and a +1.8 handicapper and I have been playing the AP2s in competition for a little over 5 months. I absolutely love them. My only gripe is that they are a little harder for me to work shots with than blades. The best part of my game is my ball striking and I think I am getting Titleist blades at the beginning of next year. I have demoed and really like the Z Muscle blades. What are the similarities between the old blades and the new ones?

The new irons look awesome, and I was about to buy the AP2s, but I have just learnt that you are pulling out new ones, so I am going to wait for them to go out. When are these going out on sale?
On the other hand, are the new AP2s bigger from heel to toe? Are they designed to be a bit bigger and forgiving? Or are they staying the same size and changes are not noticed to the bare eye?
Regards,
Marco Ruiz

I know that getting fit is the best solution (and I plan on doing that), but could you tell me which new set of irons would be close in characteristics to the 735.CMs?

If a golf ball was struck perfectly by an AP1, AP2, MB, and CB all of the same loft, which ball would travel the farthest?

Is there any chance that the Dynamic Gold Tour Issue shaft could be stock for the MBs or CBs?

The new irons look amazing. But what will be the price of the new AP2 4-PW? Would it be similar with the prices of the AP2 out right now?

When will these irons be available in UK?

Hey Jeremy,
I play the AP2s and have had them for almost a year. I take really good care of my irons yet still have some gashes and bag chatter nics. If you find a stone in the turf with these clubs it will put a gash in it. I know personally. I do love my clubs and would never play a cast club again. The feel is unmatched. I highly suggest the change over to forged clubs. In my opinion they make you a better player because you can really feel the difference between a well struck golf shot and an ok golf shot. Hope this helps you.

Marco-
The new irons will be available in golf shops this November. Design changes to the AP2 have focused on improving feel.

Scott-
As a combination set of cavity back and muscle back forged irons, your current 735.CMs would be most closely matched by a mixed set of CB and MB.
Harry and Robin-
All of the new irons will be available in golf shops worldwide in November.
Kevin-
Maximum distance is not a particularly good comparison of the four models as they are designed to promote different trajectories and spin characteristics. The goal with iron design is to provide the player with their preferred combination of feel, looks, and shot control (forgiveness v workability as well as trajectory and distance control).

Complete product details will be available on Titleist.com this fall.
Ryan-
Dynamic Gold Tour Issue will not be the stock shaft for any of the new irons, but will be available for custom order.
Harry-
Complete product details, including suggested pricing, will be available on Titleist.com this fall.
Stuart-
Current AP1 irons and the 775.CB irons have identical lofts throughout the set. Expect the new AP1 irons to be similar.
I have 735s as well and love them. I have been wondering the same thing. Could you give some more specifics as far as what model of CB and MB that Titleist currently offers that would make up that closest combination?

Bryan-
In the current irons line-up, the Z Blend Forged iron set most closely matches the 735.CM: www.titleist.com/.../ZB.asp
More information will be available on Titleist.com this fall regarding the new CB and MB iron models coming to golf shops in November.

I was just wondering whether a blade or cavity back hits the ball farther.
