Titleist Brand Ambassador Bill Haas Wins Viking Classic; Seventh Worldwide Victory for Titleist 910 Driver

Posted: October 4, 2010

Titleist Brand Ambassador Bill Haas rolled his Pro V1x golf ball in for two birdies over the final three holes Sunday to punctuate a wire-to-wire victory at the Viking Classic, his second win this season on the PGA Tour – and first using the new Titleist 910 driver.

Haas, who earned his maiden victory in January at the Bob Hope Classic, opened with consecutive 66s at Annandale Golf Club in Madison, Miss., and finished at 15-under 273 for a three-stroke victory to extend his exempt status on the PGA Tour through 2013.

"I always said, after winning one, you want to win two," Haas said. "Now I want to win a third. And next week, I plan on playing, and we all start at even. If I bogey the first, I'll be disappointed. It's a grind out here. You've got to take it shot to shot, week to week."

Haas was one of 93 players in the field at the Viking Classic that trusted a Titleist golf ball, more than six times the nearest competitor with 15. Nine of the 10 players who finished tied for eighth or better, including Titleist Brand Ambassadors Brendon de Jonge (T-3), D.J. Trahan (T-3) and Graham DeLaet (T-5), played a Titleist golf ball.

Titleist also was first in Iron Sets (36); Sand, Lob and Approach Wedges (114); and Putters (63).

Haas was one of 23 players at the Viking Classic that played a new Titleist 910 driver, which has now recorded seven victories on the worldwide professional tours since its debut at the AT&T National in June. Michio Matsumura also used a 910 driver in winning this weekend's Coca Cola Tokai Classic on the Japan Tour.

Haas gamed a 910D2 8.5 on setting B2 (+.75 upright) to finish third in Driving Distance (329.1 yards) and tied for 13th in fairways hit (66 percent) for the week, as well as a new Titleist 910F 13.5 fairway metal.

Titleist 910 drivers, fairway metals and hybrids were also in the bags of De Jonge (910 D3 9.5, 910F 15.0), DeLaet (910D2 8.5, 910F 15.0, 910H 19.0) and Trahan (910H 18.0).

"If you get on the fairway (at Annandale), the course overall is a pretty short course, especially this week the way the balls were running," said Haas, who made 23 birdies for the week. "If you get on the fairways and you have a pitching wedge, sand wedge, 9 irons, it makes the game seem a little easier."

The victory moved Haas to 26th on the PGA Tour money list with four events remaining. The top 30 players on the season-ending money list earn exemptions into the 2011 Masters and the 2011 U.S. Open.

Here's a closer look at Haas' Titleist equipment:
