PGA Show: Ask Michael Breed a Question

Posted: January 27, 2011

Team Titleist is headed to Orlando, Fla., this week for the 2011 PGA Merchandise Show, and we are especially excited about the opportunity to spend some time with Titleist Advisory Staff Member Michael Breed – the Head PGA Professional at Sunningdale Country Club in Scarsdale, N.Y., host of Golf Channel's popular golf instructional show, "The Golf Fix," and one of golf's leading instructors.

Michael, a longtime Titleist Advisory Staff member who has been instrumental in Titleist's Golf Ball Education, Selection and Fitting initiative, traveled to China recently to share his ideas and teaching philosophy with 60 of the country's top golf instructors and coaches at the first-ever Titleist Golf Coaches Forum in China.

On Friday, he will take some time out from his busy schedule at the PGA Merchandise Show to answer questions submitted exclusively from members of Team Titleist.

Michael will be selecting his favorite questions to answer, so reply to this post with your best question and check back later this weekend to see if yours was picked. Thanks!

Michael, i watch your show all the time to see what I can learn. I'm a pretty good player but I have trouble with pulling my short irons. Any suggestions?

Jerry

Most amateur golfers end up coming over the top because they rush their transition which I believe Hogan felt was the pivotal point of the swing.  How can a higher handicapper capture the proper smooth transition that you and most professionals have?

Jerry

What is the most interesting thing that you've seen at the show ?

Jerry

What is the best drill to make sure that you are hitting down on the golf ball and what is the best ball position in your stance?  Thank you.

Jerry

How do you know exactly what bounce you should get on your wedges?  Hard sand at some courses, fluffy sand at other courses.  Tight fairways, long rough around greens.

What to do?

Jerry

How long do you think the golf courses of the future will be or will the powers of golf limit equipment improvements?

I am in my middle 50's and hitting the ball further than ever due to equipment.

Jerry

Michael,

I never hear any talk about the importance of the right elbow when instructors talk about the swing.  As you know, as the right elbow folds, it sets the right wrist and lengthens the left arm....in turn, creating two powerful levers for the swing.  Most players are trying to keep the left arm straight and wide going back...a concept I feel that does more damage to the average player, than any good.  What are your thoughts on this?

Jerry

Downhill bunker shots, probably worst shot ever.  90% of the time I leave it in the bunker for another shot.  Is there a good drill on how to properly hit these things.

Jerry

I get a good turn, weight on my right side (right handed) then my first move at the top is to move my head and torso to the left  HOW DO I STOP DOING THIS and make my lower body go first? What drill is there for this.
