TITLEIST BRAND AMBASSADOR WEBB SIMPSON RALLIES TO CAPTURE
DEUTSCHE BANK CHAMPIONSHIP IN ALL-PRO V1x PLAYOFF
FAIRHAVEN, Mass. (September 5, 2011) – Titleist Brand Ambassador Webb Simpson closed with three consecutive birdies to capture the Deutsche Bank Championship on the second hole of a sudden death playoff with Chez Reavie. While the champion may have been in doubt when both players returned to the 18th hole for the start of the playoff, the winning golf ball was not.
Simpson and Reavie each fired four consecutive rounds in the 60’s to finish regulation at 15-under 269 with the Pro V1x golf ball. Simpson’s closing six-under 65 was the best round of the final day. World No. 1 and fellow Pro V1x golf ball loyalist Luke Donald was among three players who tied for third place, two shots out of the playoff.
WHAT’S IN WEBB SIMPSON’S TITLEIST BAG?: In addition to the Pro V1x golf ball, Simpson’s winning bag includes the Titleist 909D3 driver (10.5), 910F fairway metals (13.5, 17), 910H hybrid (21), 680 irons (4-P) and Vokey Design sand (54) and lob (58) wedges.
TITLEIST TOPS IN PGA TOUR EQUIPMENT WINS: Simpson’s win increases the Titleist victory count on the PGA TOUR across every major equipment category, including golf balls (26), drivers (15), irons (15) and wedges (19). Titleist is also the top choice among champions in the putter category, with 16.
SIMPSON’S STATS: The win marked Simpson’s second career PGA TOUR title, and he vaults to first place in the FedExCup standings with two PGA TOUR Playoffs events remaining. The 26-year old earned his first PGA TOUR title at the Wyndham Championship just two weeks ago.
Simpson has relied upon his Titleist equipment to be among the most consistent players on the 2011 PGA TOUR. He has participated in 22 events, made 19 cuts, and posted 17 top 25 finishes, including nine Top 10’s. This was his second playoff of the season, having lost to fellow Pro V1x player Bubba Watson at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans. The win also assured Simpson a roster spot on The Presidents Cup team in Australia, and moves to No. 14 in the Official World Golf Ranking.
BY THE NUMBERS … AT THE DEUTSCHE BANK CHAMPIONSHIP: Titleist was the overwhelming golf ball of choice at The Deutsche Bank Championship with 62 players, nearly five times the nearest competitor with 13. Titleist also was first in iron sets (34), including 16 sets of new 712 prototype irons (3 AP2, 8 MB, and 5 CB sets in play); sand, lob and approach wedges (96); and putters (39).
