Bud Cauley, one of our newest Titleist Brand Ambassadors, has made history after only eight starts on the PGA Tour.Having turned professional this summer following three years at the University of Alabama and a stellar amateur career, Bud wrapped up his 2012 PGA Tour card Sunday at the McGladrey Classic with a tie for 15th, trusting a Titleist Pro V1x golf ball and a bag full of Titleist equipment. It was his seventh made cut in eight starts, which included two top-four finishes and five top-24s, all of which added up to $735,150, currently the equivalent of 114th on the PGA Tour money list.Players who finished in the top 125 on the PGA Tour Money List as non-members become exempt Tour members for the following season.Bud, 21, will become the just the sixth player in history to bypass Q-School and go straight from college to the PGA Tour, a feat often attempted but rarely accomplished."Well, if that's the case, obviously very exciting for me," Bud told the media Sunday at Sea Island Golf Club. With one event left in the PGA Tour season, Bud didn't want to "jinx" his position until all was said and done.“I can’t even get him to look ahead to his next plane flight,” Bud's father, Bill, told the Florida-Times Union.
“Let’s just say we feel better. He sort of padded the lead. I’ll do the daydreaming right now. But he’s not.”Perhaps Bud hadn't yet seen the blog post on PGATour.com Sunday night that began with, "Mission accomplished. Bud Cauley will be a PGA Tour member in 2012.""It's always been my dream to play on the PGA Tour, so if that's the case I'll be looking forward to next year," he said.Bud, of Jacksonville, Fla., began his professional career in July at the U.S. Open at Congressional, where he finished T-63.The former Walker Cup star followed with a T-24 a week later at the Travelers Championship, shooting four rounds in the 60s including a final-round 5-under 65.A couple weeks later, Bud posted four more rounds in the 60s on his way to a T-4 finish at the Viking Classic. He followed with a T-13 at the RBC Canadian Open and T-52 at the Wyndham Championship, his 2012 PGA Tour card only coming into clear view two weeks ago at the Frys.Com Open, where he again recorded four rounds in the 60s and placed solo-third.Bud also mixed in a T-4 at the Nationwide Tour's Utah Championship during that stretch. (This week, he is playing in front of hometown fans at the Winn-Dixie Jacksonville Open at the TPC Sawgrass Dye’s Valley course.)Over his eight PGA Tour starts, Bud shot 20 rounds of 69 or better and averaged 69.44.He also hit 72.78 percent of his greens in regulation, which would rank No. 1 on the PGA Tour. "What happened to the learning curve that used to exist 10, 20 years ago?" one member of the media asked Bud Sunday evening."The golf ball doesn't know how old you are or anything," Bud said. "Just go out there and hit it and try to get it in the hole."Team TItleist caught up with Bud earlier this season to talk about his jump to professional golf, which you can watch in the above video. Here's a closer look at Bud's Titleist equipment:
