The 2012 PGA Tour season may be winding down, but that doesn't mean the Titleist R&D team is taking a break from designing the best performing products for the world’s best players.
Meet the new prototype Titleist 712U utility iron, which has been designed to deliver consistency and control to high-ball speed players.
On the worldwide professional tours, some players prefer a utility iron over a hybrid club as an alternative to traditional long irons. The 712U delivers increased playability versus a traditional long iron while providing enhanced spin and trajectory control versus a hybrid.
The prototype 712U is being sent to players this week for performance validation and feedback. We will also be on the range at the season ending PGA Tour Fall Series event at Disney in early November working with Titleist staff players.
The 712U is currently a Tour-only product, but the feedback we receive during this validation period will influence the final design and specifications, as well as determine the product's place in the Titleist club line-up.
Before the new prototypes headed out, we grabbed some photos of them in our Tour workshop. Be sure to check out the slideshow to get a first look at the prototype Titleist 712U utility irons.

is there a possibility for a release before spring on 2013? i'm probably not going to be golfing before then and i am debating between an AP1 3 iron and holding out for this.

These look great! Playing with the 712 MB's now and I also find it more appealing to hit a low iron opposed to the hybrids.
Another quality product which will be a success for sure.
Let us know when there is testing for the amatuers...

Dear TT,
I see that the new utility iron is being validated by the tour players. I also see that they will come in a 2,3, and 4 iron. I was wondering if, somewhere down the line, a utility iron in the same lofts might be available for the AP1's and/or AP2"s? If they will, do you have any idea as to a time frame? Thanks.

I still love my 2 iron...I hope it doesn't loft the ball too high in the air.

I'm still playing golf with a set of Titleist DCI irons 2 thru PW bought in 1994. I would LOVE to test out these irons! I like their aggressive look and know they will play well! Thanks!

Very interesting clubs indeed. Wonder how they compare to a traditional 712 MB club? Nice look from the photos. What are the degrees of the various utility irons?

Those look sweet! I have always struggled hitting traditional hybrids and have much more confidence with an iron in my hand. From what I see, I am more pumped to try this than any other new club I've seen for 2013.
