The 2012 PGA Tour season may be winding down, but that doesn't mean the Titleist R&D team is taking a break from designing the best performing products for the world’s best players.
Meet the new prototype Titleist 712U utility iron, which has been designed to deliver consistency and control to high-ball speed players.
On the worldwide professional tours, some players prefer a utility iron over a hybrid club as an alternative to traditional long irons. The 712U delivers increased playability versus a traditional long iron while providing enhanced spin and trajectory control versus a hybrid.
The prototype 712U is being sent to players this week for performance validation and feedback. We will also be on the range at the season ending PGA Tour Fall Series event at Disney in early November working with Titleist staff players.
The 712U is currently a Tour-only product, but the feedback we receive during this validation period will influence the final design and specifications, as well as determine the product's place in the Titleist club line-up.
Before the new prototypes headed out, we grabbed some photos of them in our Tour workshop. Be sure to check out the slideshow to get a first look at the prototype Titleist 712U utility irons.

THIS IS WHAT I NEED.
I recently made a change in my swing, and now I’m hitting my irons a lot higher.
This led me to replace my 3 and 4 hybrids with a 3 and 4 iron (never thought that would happen).
Using the 3 iron of the tee 4 to 6 times on par 4s and occasionally even on par 5s a round, I’ve lowered my scoring by 3 to 4 shots a round.
I was considering putting my old TP-9 2-iron back in the bag, as not to give up too much distance.
But now, I’ll all I want is the Titleist 712U Utility 2-iron.
Please, please, please make these clubs available for everyone.

Looks like a great club. I'm buying my AP2's in the next week or two... This could be a great edition... When are the non-tour players going to demo these or when are they going to be available?

Hi Titleist,
I am 14 and play every day and am an 8 handicap with above average ball striking. I personally think I would be a great candidate to test out the 712U I was actually thinking about getting the 710MB.
Thanks,
Eric

The Brushed Nickel finish is very classy, understated, and masculine.
I hope that they hit as good as they look.
When you go into the Golf Shops today, most of the clubs look like an "X-Wing Fighter"; I am glad that Titleist is sticking to Traditionalism.
These are Beautiful.

Having gone back to forged irons this year at 52 years old, I have to say that these are gorgeous! Any chance they might be available in a cavity back or mixed cb/mb?

Dear Titleist Gods ... I WANT this club! I MUST have this club! What will it take to get this in my ALL-TITLEIST bag????? I'm putting aside the cash right now!!!! I love my AP2's, but would love nothing more than to have this beauty in my bag--make that beauties!
QUESTION: does anyone know if this is a "driving iron" alone? Or is it possible to have this as an entire set? Is there any kind of date that we mere mortals will have a chance to get this club?

Had the unique opportunity to swing a 712U 3 with Project X 6.5... Instant gratification, like butter. Never have been a got to have it Hybrid guy, have one because? and will probably keep one, but will definitely have the 712U 3 in the bag to replace the CB 3 I currently have. This club will not be for everybody, but will be for me. Thanks Titleist!
