Picture this. It’s a beautiful day on the golf course. You’ve just split the fairway with your tee shot. You walk up to your golf ball, check the distance to the pin, do a couple of quick calculations in your head and find yourself in-between clubs.
Sound familiar? It’s a fairly common scenario on the course for many golfers, so we went out to the PGA Tour to get some advice on how to approach the next shot.
While the final execution of the shot varies from player to player, one common thread we heard from all players is that you have to take in all of the factors including pin placement, course conditions, the wind and where the trouble is before committing to the shot.
Whether you’re like Graham DeLaet and prefer to choke-up on the grip to control distance or prefer to take an aggressive approach into the ball like Jimmy Walker, the ultimate key is making a confident swing and trusting your decision.
Hunter Mahan sums it up nicely.
“You've got to go with comfort. You've got to know what feels good to you and what club you know you can get it there.”
