Points Claims Third PGA TOUR Crown in Puerto Rico

"I've never, that I can think of, just started out with five straight birdies. It was just like, 'Wow!' I just hit in the fairway and I hit it right at the flag and tapped it in. It was pretty fun."

That’s how Titleist golf ball loyalist D.A. Points (Pro V1x) described his burst out of the gates, as he began his final round round with five straight birdies en route to firing a 6-under-par 66 and securing a two-shot victory at the Puerto Rico Open.

It marked the third career PGA TOUR title for Points and his first since the 2013 Shell Houston Open.

Points, who also won the 2011 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, shot four consecutive rounds in the 60’s at Coco Beach Golf & Country Club, including an opening round 64 en route to a 20-under-par 268 victory total.

Titleist golf ball loyalist Bill Lunde, who relied on the new Pro V1x golf ball, was among three players who tied for 2nd.

Three more players – Titleist Brand Ambassador Peter Uihlein (new Pro V1x) and Titleist golf ball loyalists Sam Saunders (new Pro V1x) and Whee Kim (new Pro V1x) all tied for 5th, another shot back.

Points topped a leaderboard that featured 13 Titleist golf ball players among the 16 who finished in the top 10 and ties.

Points earned an all-important two-year exemption with the victory.

"I was just really proud of myself for finding some way - hitting about as low as I've ever been golf-wise and finding my out - and then to be able to hang in there and win today is something that I wasn't sure if I had in me," Points said.

"And I'm really proud of myself."

Congratulations, D.A.!

TITLEIST BY THE NUMBERS
