Titleist Ambassador Robert Karlsson crowned Dubai World Champion.

As the top-60 players on the European Tour assembled in Dubai for the season-ending Dubai World Championship, each of them knew that only a world class performance would be good enough for victory at the Tour's showpiece event. And on this stage Titleist Ambassador Robert Karlsson produced a stellar final round performance, followed by a clinic playoff display, to claim the European Tour's most prestigious title ahead of fellow Pro V1 loyalist Ian Poulter.

Beginning the day three shots adrift of Poulter's third round lead, Karlsson started his fourth round in explosive fashion and surged to the top of the leaderboard with birdies at the first and second followed by a stunning eagle two at the 452 yard par-4 eighth. Having found the ideal position in the centre of the fairway, Karlsson perfectly executed his 8-iron approach, pitching the ball 20 feet right of the target and using the contour of the green to send his Pro V1x to the bottom of the cup.

Despite two bogeys following on his outward half, Karlsson re-established his position with birdies at the 10th and 11th before rounding off his day in style with a birdie four at the par five 18th to sign for a five under par total of 67 and a four-round total of 274 (-14). The birdie at 18 proved crucial for Karlsson as Poulter, last week's winner in Hong Kong, found birdies elusive over the closing holes to finish on the same 14 under par total to force a playoff.

The monstrous 18th hole at Jumeirah Golf Estates was the scene for the playoff duel as two proven European Tour competitors locked horns in sudden death matchplay. With water in play on every step of the 620 yard hole and the pressure firmly on, both players showed their class to halve the first extra hole with birdies. However, at the second time of asking it was Karlsson who struck the decisive blow as he produced his third birdie in succession at the 18th hole to take the Dubai World Championship crown.

This win marked Karlsson's second title of the season, having won at the Qatar Masters back in January, and the 11th European Tour title of his career. The victory also moved the stylish swinging Swede into sixth position in the final Race to Dubai rankings. Speaking after his playoff victory a delighted Karlsson said "Obviously when we have all of the best players in Europe together, the way it looks now, it's going to be a great field - so to win here is fantastic."

With victory, Karlsson took the number of wins for the Titleist Pro V1 franchise to 144 across the worldwide professional tours in 2010, which is six times more than the nearest competitor. It was also the 19th European Tour victory of the season for the iconic Pro V1. In addition, his victory marked yet another success for the new Titleist 910 driver with Karlsson following in the footsteps of Ross Fisher, Matteo Manassero and Adam Scott all of whom have tasted European Tour success with the new 910 in recent weeks.
