These days it's fair to say that the world of golf never stops. Event schedules around the world mean that professional tournament golf is played all year round and a tournament winner can soon become yesterday's news as the next player moves into the winner's circle. However, there are certain victories that bring the world of golf to a standstill. There are certain victories that make players, journalists, industry insiders and golf fans alike all stand up and take notice. There are certain victories that transcend golf and permeate their way into the consciousness of mainstream society. This past weekend saw one such victory as Titleist Ambassador Rory McIlroy produced one of the greatest performances in golfing history to claim his maiden major title at the 111th U.S. Open Championship. The 22 year old from Holywood Northern Ireland has always been touted as one of the brightest talents in the game and this came to the fore at Congressional Country Club as the young Ulsterman carded four consecutive rounds in the 60's for a tournament record total of 268 (-16) and an eight stroke margin of victory.

A glance at the tournament statistics reveal just how Rory achieved his record 16 under par total and probably the most amazing statistic of them all was his greens in regulation for the week. At a tournament widely regarded as the toughest test in golf Rory hit a simply staggering 62 of 72 greens in regulation. Whether approaching with his Titleist fairway metal, his Titleist MB irons or his Vokey Design Wedges Rory was simply laser like with his accuracy.

As he has since his first day as professional, Rory placed his trust in Titleist equipment to claim the U.S. Open Championship. Rory navigated the challenging layout of Congressional Country Club's Blue course with total trust in the #1 ball in golf as each and every one of his record breaking 268 strokes was executed with the iconic Titleist Pro V1x golf ball. Complementing the Pro V1x was a full bag of Titleist equipment which includes the 910D2 driver, 906F2 fairway, MB irons, Vokey Design Wedges and a prototype Scotty Cameron Studio Select Newport putter with distinctive 'chromatic bronze' finish.Everyone at Titleist Europe would like to congratulate Rory on his major championship breakthrough; watching him over the coming years is certainly going to be exciting and we are hugely proud to have Rory as an Ambassador for the Tileist brand.
