Pro V1x loyalist Stacy Lewis captured her third LPGA Tour title of the year on Sunday, winning the Navistar LPGA Classic to lead a five-win week for Titleist golf ball players. Lewis, 27, fired a 3-under 69 in the final round, good for an 18-under 270 and a two-shot margin of victory. The win marks her second win this year in the State of Alabama (Lewis won the Mobile Bay LPGA Classic victory in April, as well the ShopRite LPGA Classic in June.)
Once the final putt fell, Lewis told reporters that "winning never gets easier", but recently the 27-year-old Texan has exhibited a keen ability to close out tournaments.
“I was definitely a lot more comfortable coming down the stretch knowing that I could hit the shots and knowing how to handle my nerves and knowing that I'm going to hit a drive probably 300 yards on the last hole, and just knowing how your body reacts to the pressure I think helps you a lot.”
Lewis demonstrated consistent play throughout the bag at Robert Trent Jones Golf Trails, highlighted by 86% of greens hit in regulation and a 28.75 putts per round average. Much of her success can be attributed to her evolving outlook and perspective. “I'm not a person defined by my success,” Lewis said. “I just love playing golf, and if I play pretty well, it's just a bonus.”
With the win, Lewis moves up to the No. 2 spot on the Rolex Rankings, behind fellow Pro V1x loyalist Yani Tseng. She also takes the lead in the Rolex Player of the Year Points standings, followed closely by Pro V1 loyalist Jiyai Shin.
Angela Stanford, Mi Jung Hur and Haeji Kang all trusted a Pro V1 golf ball to share 3rd place at 15-under 273. Beatriz Recari (Pro V1) finished a further shot back, tied for sixth.
Of the ten players who finished tied for 8th or better at the event, seven relied on a Titleist golf ball. Titleist was the most played golf ball at the Navistar LPGA Classic with 101 players, more than nine times the nearest competitor and more than all competing brands combined.
