On The Range at The Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship

This week's event is.....
The Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship marks the start of the three event Desert Swing on the European Tour - and sees the Race To Dubai kick start in earnest!
But more importantly it marked the full issue of new Pro V1 and Pro V1x golf balls to players on the European Tour. Whilst most players had received some balls at the Dubai World Championships or over the off-season, this would be the first event that a full issue would take place.
Titleist was the overwhelming top choice in golf balls at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship with 75 players of the field of 126 relying upon a Pro V1 or Pro V1x, nearly four times the nearest competitor with 19. Titleist was also the favourite in the sand, lob and approach wedge category with 138, nearly twice the nearest competitor with 70.
And 32 Titleist ambassadors and ball loyalists were so pleased with the performance, that they put either the 2013 Pro V1 or Pro V1x into play. This included Titleist ambassadors Matteo Manassero, Bernd Wiesberger, Thomas Levet, Gregory Bourdy, Michael Hoey and Lee Slattery, as well as Titleist golf ball loyalists including major winners Michael Campbell and Todd Hamilton, plus Joost Luiten, Tom Lewis and Gregory Havret.
"I'm putting the new Pro V1x into play this week," explained Johan Edfors. "I find it gives me a little better launch and some better spin control in the wind, so I'm looking forward to playing it!"
And the wind was up early in the week for the practice rounds, so players have had a great opportunity to see the launch and spin control advantages. Players were also reporting narrow fairways and sit-down rough that will put control of the ball at an absolute premium. Add to that firmer greens than in previous years and a layout measuring 7,600 yards and it should be a great finish at the weekend!
Team Titleist caught up with a number of the players that have put the new 2013 Pro V1 or Pro V1x into play this week, so we'll have some video updates next week.
