  1. Hello

I'm new here and I was wondering what were some good short game drills I can do.

  2. BALL STRIKING.

This drill really helped my ball striking from the high loft wedges to around my 6 iron, helping me to compress the ball better and reduce any 'fat' shots where you may be hitting the ground first, this drill promotes striking the ball first then taking a divot.

Place a business card about an inch behind your ball, make a normal swing at the ball, trying to hit the ball first, missing the business card. As you start to get better at this drill love the business card closer to the ball to make your striking even more precise.

You'll think this drill is stupid until you master it, when you do your iron striking will be so solid and should also increase the amount of spin your getting. I'm currently playing off 6 and started this drill at the start of the season when I was playing off 9. I've spent hours in the nets with this drill and it can get frustrating, but work through it and you'll strike the ball so much better.

    Hope it helps

Joe M - thanks for the tip.  Sounds like a simple idea that provides instant feedback, especially on practice mats.  Anything that drops a player's index 3 points is worth considering, especially a 3-point improvement for a single-digit player.

  4. Yeah it's a great drill, you can keep improving with it no matter what your level, weather the card is an inch away or really close it will start to improve step by step. Don't rush it just make sure you not hitting the card every time and you should notice a totally different feel off the club face and your might even begin to spin the ball or notice more spin dependent on your shot type already!

    Hope it helps
