Keeping it going on the back 9

Hi team titleist I'm looking for some advice as I have had the same occurring problem in my monthly medals this year. I have had a few good rounds going and near the end I seem to have a disappointing finish leaving a sour taste and a round that could have got me a nice cut or hit buffer has not happened. I was just wondering if anyone has the same problem and if anyone has any tips on how to combat this Cheers Blair

    This isn't swing related but are you taking in energy to sustain the back 9?

    I have noticed drinking plenty of water and eating a bananas or almonds really help me keep my focus.

    Blair, I completely understand where you are coming from. I'm sure if you have been looking for ways to help finish up a round, you have come across this, but here goes anyway. I'll try and break down the round into three hole segments and this seems to help me. Again not my own idea, just wanted to pass along.

    Hi Blair. Rob_Roth1 is right. Energy is very important. Sometimes I don't even notice when I don't have much energy left but sometimes my laying partners do. I have always carried my bag but find that using a push/pull cart makes a big difference in energy levels. Also because you are playing well on the back nine and last few holes especially you may be too worried about what you are going to shoot or what others in your group will shoot. In tournaments I always play 'match play' with myself. I usually play so that a bogey will 'lose' me the hole and a par will 'win'. If I win or lose before the round is over I start over. I strongly recommend trying this and depending how good of a golfer or round you are playing you can adjust what wins or loses you the hole.

    It's hard to do but I myself try not to look at the finish line (score). Once I get on the back I look at how I've been swinging the clubs and play each hole without looking ahead. I assess the next hole on the tee box not before that. I try not think what if I par out or things like that. I also try not add my score in my head on the back.

    I will sometimes not add up the front 9 so I go strictly on feel of how I have been playing that day. That has helped me keep momentum at times and not break down with knowing exactly what I need or might accomplish with certain scores on the back.

    Golf is a funny game like that, both mentally and physically. I like the idea from Brian B. but, also might I suggest on the last few holes hit to the middle of the green, attack pins that are only placed in the back of the green, think "get on the green, two putt max". Hope it helps.

    If you've ever attended a PGA event those guys are snacking a lot. The mental and physical drain sounds like its catching up to you. Don't eat a 5 course meal but try to remember to take a bite of something high in protein on the odd holes. Just a bite. This should help you finish stronger if your issues are from fatigue. I'm assuming you are hydrating through out your round.

    I had the exact same problem! My main reason was in the evenings I use to go out for a quick 9 holes and would almost always play the front 9 so now I play the back 9 more often as well as trying to play a full 18 holes as much as possible! Another thing I found which helped a lot is ignoring my score as much as possible ... If I'm playing and know I'm shooting a good score I feel more pressured to keep it going and normally end up imploding! Now I just try to forget about it as much as possible and it has helped ALOT!!     In my own experience, if I know i'm having a solid round I simply do not add up my scores.. I wait until the 19th hole... Too many times I hear or know my front 9 score and the back 9 is a complete disaster b/c all i'm thinking about is going low and it's all in the head...

    That's the best I can give... It's all in the head..

    All jokes aside I use Amino vital during the round and I always feel good.

    Thanks guys I will try to drink and eat something on the back 9 I admit I don't do it enough. I will also try to not add up my score until the round is finished because i usually know exactly where I stand which probably doesn't help.

    Eat and hydrate..seriously. I make sure I'm taking something every 3-4 holes and staying hydrated.

    If you're already doing, I try to narrow down my focus and just focus on the upcoming shot.

    Happens to me as well. I think it's the 6" between our ears and a snack. Nothing more.
