I just got back from a few days in the Nashville area.  I have been there a few other times an played golf, but this time I played 2 courses new to me and one I like to play every time I go.  My "go to" public course is the Hermitage, just north of Nashville.  They have 2 18-hole tracks - the General which is older, tighter and a little shorter, and the President's which is newer and has 5 sets of tees.  I played the President's (at $68.25) this time and was once again impressed by the course conditions and greens.  I also appreciated the GPS screen in the cart.  I played the 2nd to the front tees just because I wanted to get my money's worth!  A few holes weren't reachable for me on the 2nd shots, but for the most part I was able to score (if I could get a putt to drop!).  I was lucky, they were having a tournament later in the day so there were not many people on the course, normally, I think it can be pretty busy.  I would highly recommend this course!

The evening before I went over to Forrest Crossings in Franklin.  It was after 4pm when I got there, so I got a twilight special.  The course and greens were in good condition and the layout of the holes I played were nice.  No cart GPS so I was dependent on course markings, and they were okay.  I only played 12 holes before it got dark, but I would definitely go back to play again.

My first TN round of golf was at Harpeth Hills...this is one of several courses owned by city of Nashville.  Because it had rained the night before and that morning I was able to get on without waiting.  If you are a single you can go over and they will pair you up with groups that aren't full, but it sounds like it's usually busy during the mornings.  This looks like a course that had been there for a long time - lots of mature beautiful trees.  The greens had been aerated but were almost filled back in...it was cart path only due to the rains before, but I didn't mind it.  The holes were pretty straight forward, not a lot of water or hazards, but ending up by a tree could be a challenge.  They didn't have a lot in their pro shop but they were in between seasons.

Overall, I loved my golf time in the Nashville area.  In researching golf, there are a lot of private courses tucked in throughout the area, but I felt like the courses I played were very nice for the traveling player.

It looks like my golf season is over in MN, so I'm SO glad I got a few rounds in last week.  Thanks Tennessee!!  Cathy

Agree that Nashville offers some great golf.  Hermitage is my favorite for sure.  Check out Gaylord Springs the next time you are in town.  Gaylord is a tough links style course that will force you to think your way around the course.  Other nice options include Wyntree, Greystone, and Pine Creek,  These courses are a step up from the muni's and usually have better spacing between  groups.
