South Carolina would be a good destination. Myrtle Beach is the number one golf destination in the U.S. There is always Kiawah Island in Charleston, where the Ocean Course is located (Ryder Cup, Sr PGA Championships, PGA Championships were played there) and four other courses. Then south of Charleston there is Hilton Head Island where the RBC Heritage is played the week after the Masters. There are a number of good courses on the island. All within 4.0 hours of each other.

It really depends what time of year you are visiting. In the summer (June-September), there is nothing better than Northern Michigan or Wisconsin. Not much else to see up there but the public golf is world class.

The US is a massive place. I would suggest you find a place you want to visit, the time of the year and then ask for course suggestions.

That's like asking "where do I get good fish n chips in the UK?" Limitless.
