Today I went to a fitting and hit some wedges. I bought 54.10 M Grind & 58.08 M Grind. I am thinking about returning the 58.08 for the 58.11 K. Here are my questions. 1. Will keeping the wedges with the same grind and medium bounce be under utilizing a club slot in my bag? 2.Will the higher bounce 58.11K allow me to still open the face if needed without too much issue? I just want to make sure a spend the money wisely and dont buy two of the same club. Shots desired 54 - Full shots, Bunker Shots, Chips and Pitch. 58 Full shots, Bunkers , Chips, Pitch and flop shots. My thinking is also that higher bounce would give me a second bunker club for fluffier sand. This is from my phone so excuse the layout and any mistypings. Thanks

    Hi Kevin,

    1) Having two wedges with the same grind and medium bounce does not under utilize a club slot in your bag. Finding the right wedges is personal, even if that means having two similar wedge designs in different lofts.

    2) The K-grind does still allow people to open the face if needed.  It is a very versatile club from all different lies and shots.

    Hope this helps.

I recently traded in a set of miz irons, one of which was a 55 degree sand wedge.  I now plan on using my Vokey 54.8 wedge as my sand wedge.  I have yet to be able to play golf since making this change.  My question is, should this wedge work for me out of bunkers?  I'm a bit concerned over the 8 degree bounce.  Thanks in advance for any tips/advice.

    Hi David,

    Thanks for the question.

If you are more of a slider/picker from the sand, 8 degrees of bounce will typically work.  If you tend to hit your bunker shots fat, more bounce may be necessary.  As well, more firm conditions require less bounce.  Bounce is player and condition dependent.  If you have any further questions, you can see a local fitter and try some different bounces from the bunker.

    Hope this helps!

That helps a lot, Bubba.  I am more of a picker and the majority of the courses I play tend to not have nice, fluffy sand so I have a suspicion that my current wedge should work fine.  Thanks so much for the help!

    You are very welcome, David.

Let us know how the wedge worked out.

    Take care,

Utilized the 54.8 Vokey yesterday out of the bunkers and was very pleased with the results.  The sand was relatively hard and a bit damp from some rain we had the night before, and the wedge got me out just fine.  Thanks for the help, Bubba!

My reasoning on a 54.11 SW and a 58.8 (spin-milled) was to use the 58 for a lower bounce sand wedge when the traps are course sand and/or overly wet.  If you experience more soft sand in your playing area, then that makes sense.  For me for flop shots, I don't have a problem with digging with the 58.

I currently have SM4  54-11 (bent 1* strong) and 58-06.  I carried an SM4 60-10 (bent 1* strong) for over a year and a half before changing to the 58-06 (this occurred after a period rain hardened some of the practice bunkers and that rendered the 60-10 almost useless).  The 60-10 was great out of soft sand and turf but I had to play a digging shot on hard lies or wet sand.  I have to  play more of a sliding shot on soft lies with the 58-06 but overall it works better and I have more shots at my disposal - it works well at 4 golf courses I play in SD.
