Wedge Gap (s)

Quinn J

I’m looking for a gap wedge. I carry a 54 and 58 degree Vokey , and a 46 degree AP2 pitching wedge. Would I be better off getting a 50 degree Vokey or a 50 degree AP2 wedge ?

I would say that depends on your game. If you want a little more forgiveness then I would recommend the ap2. However, I carry an ap2 PW(47*), 52.08 F grind, 56.10 S grind and a 60. I love the feel of the Vokeys and would personally get a 50 if I were you. If you use it greenside, Vokeys provide amazing touch. Hope this helps.

depends if you're planning to hit full shots with the gap wedge I'd say the AP2 would be better, if you're likely to use it for manufacturing a variety of shots around the greens etc. then I'd go with the Vokey option.

In "my opinion" I'd say go with a 50* gap 718 AP2 wedge. I've played both straight blade style vokey 50* wedges and the 710, 716, and currently 718 AP2 50* gap wedge.

Looking at the new 718 AP2 50* it has a more Vokey blade style appearance at address compared to the 710 and 716 50*/gap wedges. Also the look of it is pretty thin and extremely easy to use and versatile aground the greens like normal Vokey style wedge. But you also get the benefits of the AP2's forgiveness on full shots.

I attached some pics. I also love that they changed sole stamping of the gap wedge from "W" to "50*". It's hard to see much of a difference in the pics I took from address but the 2nd pic is the 716 50* and the 718 AP2 is the 3rd. But the the new 718 AP2 50* is a great looking, versatile, and forgiving option to fit your gap you need.

    I have a 56* and 60*, with a 50* GapW, I got a major grey area between 110yrds and 85yrds.

    Looking to have my 56* 14bounce Fgrind to 2+* = 54*.

Q: What is the effect on bounce (1/1 ?) and lie ?

Will be a stronger lie. not sure what though. Sorry

I would recommend AP2 Gap (50) as I think you will likely use this club for Full Shots.

For every degree of loft bent, the bounce effectively is decreased by the same amount.
So your wedge will go from 56/14* to 54/12*

I would stick with the Vokey 50* IMO. Especially since you have the Vokey's already in the other "scoring" wedges. Plus I believe them to be more versatile in creating shots instead of the set wedge.

    Quinn,

I personally play the 50* SM6 with my MB PW at 47*. I love the ability to hit different shots with the SM6. I personally have the ability to hit the SM6 lower if needed and with more spin. I have just ordered an SM6 46 to replace my MB just due to the versatility of the SM6. I don't think you would be disappointed with the Vokey 50, it's a club I try to hit as often as I can on Par 5's and shorter Par 4's.
