Hi, I have a X5 that is about 6 months old and it is staining or possibly rusting on the top of the head. This putter is kept dry and wiped down after each round. Has anyone else had this issue? It does not affect the putter in use of course, but it is distracting to look down at my favorite Putter and seeing the stains.

I have the exact same issue. I purchased my X5 new on eBay and sent it to Scotty's Custom Shop in January for authentication and some customization. Yesterday, I sent pictures of the tarnished/stained X5 to Scotty's Custom Shop. When I hear back from them I will post here. Best wishes on finding a solution. What an awesome putter.

Mine is on the way or is at the Titleist Repair shop now, It remains to be seen what will be done with it. I was told most likely it will just be buffed out, which will not stop the problem which is apparently if you do not dry it completely and oil it after every use it will rust. So it is considered a User error. Now this being Stainless steel it seems very odd to me. I have seen many SC Putters with the same finish (or technically the lack of finish)that have never been oiled and treated like any other putter and they have not rusted. I have also spoke with several X5 Owners that have seen the same issue. It is ashamed because it is a wonderful Putter, with great feel and balance. Also I had several very nice conversations with the Jarrett at SC, he was very helpful and patient with me, but he could not do anything about the problem it had to go back to Titleist.)(or go to them for refinishing at listed cost)

SC Custom Shop sent me an email stating, You have two options to fix your putter. 1. You can send in to the Titleist repair department through a local golf shop. 2. You can send it in to us and we can restore it to a black finish which would protect your putter from the elements. Standard Restoration Fee applies. Pretty sure I am going to have restored to black.

i am having the same issue with my Futura X5r, it is also about 6 months old and purchased brand new.  Took it to my local shop and they told me that it is a characteristic of the finish, possibly due to green fertilization.  pretty much told me i was SOL.  This is a great putter, i absolutely LOVE.  just a little disappointed its not holding up well to the elements.

You should be able to send your X5R to Titleist repair shop through your local shop. When then return it to you, you should remember to dry off and wipe with an oil cloth after every round. If your local shop is not willing to help, I'm sure Team Titleist will go to bat for you. I elected to send mine to SC Custom Shop. They are going to restore it to a black finish which will protect it from the elements.

    Hey Jim,

I am interested to see what the X5R will look like in black and also what the custom shop is going to charge you to restore it black. please post pictures when you get it back!

The funny thing is i dry my putter off almost after every hole and i am still stuck with this ugly stain/rust popping up and it is only getting worse.  This is my first scotty and i treat is like a baby and was definitely not expecting this to happen so soon.  My local shop is willing to help out and ship it to Titleist for repair (or to be looked at) but made it known that i would be out a putter for quite some time.  If i do decide to do so it will be in a few months as the colder weather and snow is on its way in the Northeast.

No, not yet. SC received it on September 1 and their web site says, "50 Days for Restoration & 20 days for Customization" Since they are restoring to black finish I'm hoping to have it back in about 2 weeks. I will definitely post some photos when I get it back.

Wow, guys... this is somewhat scary for me. I just got my SC X5R June of this year. This is my first SC that I've owned and can work with- needless to say it's the best I've ever had and I don't want it to change- and didn't want its look to change. I guess I'll need an oil & cloth handy. ...Glad I read this. Thanks ALL.
