    Hi all

I am currently doing some research for my son on the range of Titleist Tour Model Putters that were available from 1985 to 1988. He is studying the evolution of golf clubs and particularly putters from the 50's as part of a Uni course. I have some very basic info as below however if anyone could shed some more light on these then we would be particularly grateful. Its got to a stage now that he has started collecting vintage putters so this Uni course is def turning out to be more expensive than envisaged LOL

    Year 1985-1988

TOUR MODEL CENTER/HEEL SHAFTED ORIGINAL -forged carbon steel heads -durable nickel chrome satin finish -precision weighted for a true center blade sweet spot -luxurious hand-wrapped Lamkin Calf leather grip -Available in straight and offset hosels

Heel Shafted Original ('85-'87),Heel Shafted Offset ('85-'87), Center Shafted Original ('86-'88), Center Shafted Offset ('86-'88),Heel Shafted Classic ('87-'88), Flange Classic ('87-'88)

    Many Thanks

    Paul

    Hi Paul,

I have had a dig around on our database here in the UK and have found the images below of the putter you refer to.

The rest of the information I have is as per your post. Is there something specifically you wanted to know - if so, I could try to find someone in the US who may be able to answer specific points.

    Thanks

Hi Neil thats very kind of you.

He has photos of all of them in various guises and also has managed to buy an example of all the models and has them on display, including the very rare heel shafted classic.

I was wondering if i could find out if any of these specific putters were used by golfers who won major tournaments or who were famous at the time, just to add a bit of history.

I was also wondering if you could source any information on what the headcovers would have looked like that originally came with the putters. I know all about the grips and the shafts so no issues there.

Once again many thanks for the info supplied and for anything elese you may be able to find out

    Best Regards

    Paul

    Hi Paul,

I spoke with our Director of Worldwide Club Manufacturing in the US and he advised that Titleist putters were not supplied with headcovers until either 1995 or 1996 with the introduction of the Bullseye Milled Series.

I have spoken with our tour department in Europe and they cannot source that far back in terms of product reports. It may be possible that you could contact Darrell Surveys directly to ask the question, as they carry out the equipment counts on the PGA Tour.

Thanks to another colleague in the US, I do have scans of the putter pages from the catalogues 1985-1988. If you would like copies, please let me know and I will email them to you.

    Best regards
