Are you an early adopter of new technology for the golf game?  Are you using either GAME GOLF or Arccos?  If so, how well does it work and would you purchase it again?

    Thanks.  J.A.C.

I've never heard of Arccos, but I seriously looked in to Game Golf when it was first coming out.  I really like the simplicity and features.  I just didn't like having to rely on them to have and update any courses I would play.  I guess it scared me a little to invest in a new company that I would have to rely on for the life of the product.

I use Zepp for golf for iOS when I'm on the range,   Works great, good info,  really helps with swing information and plane.  Used it this winter in the garage practice net.

I've been doing more research on the Arccos product and I'm impressed.  This could be a real game changer.  It's a little pricey right now, but that's to be expected at this point in the industry life cycle.  The only limitation I see is phone battery life.  Other than that, it's as simple or as powerful as you want.  I still want to do more research, but this might go on my Christmas list.

I decided to bite the bullet on Arccos and try it out. I have so much more fun playing when I'm not thinking about my score. Maybe this is what I need.

Got it on Amazon for $334, by the way, which is much better than the advertised $399.

I'll report after I try it out for a few rounds. It will be tough to not use my Golfshot app though... such a habit!

That will be great. I'll be very curious to see if it's as great as it looks. Can't wait for your update.

Awesome!  Let us know how you make out.  I'm interested on battery life, both of your phone and long term with the sensors.  They said the sensors should last 50 rounds, but I'll be curious how you make out long term.

I will certainly post on Battery life. I am currently using Golfshot and a round takes no more than 30% of my battery and have no problem playing 36 in a day with it. Arccos will likely use more, but I hope not too much more.

Other things I see as a potential issue:

Remembering to mark tap-in putts that may not register, or gimme putts

Remembering not to turn on the app until after I warm up on the range (as it says in the instructions), or maybe turn it on to download the course and then back off?

What happens when I clean the sand off my shoes with my wedge? Will it count that as a shot?

I'd love to hear what other people may see as a potential issue. I may have to keep a very detailed record of all my shots for a few rounds to make sure it works as expected, not sure. That doesn't make it as much fun.

Headed to Maui in a week, so I'll at least get to play a few times there, and maybe once before I leave.

Ok, first update. I got it this morning and played today. As far as getting your shots and distances, keeping your score for you... it is fantastic.

Unfortunately, it has no bells and whistles, only gives you distance to the green (which is worthless if there is a big ravine in your way, like today).

So far, I'm torn. I sent them an email asking about planned upgrades to see what they say.

Battery life was fine, used close to 60%, but note that I do not use auto-brightness (that kills your battery) and did not have the screen all the way bright. I did play around with it more than I may if I weren't a newbie to it.

It did register a couple shots from me banging my clubs around, that was annoying, but I deleting them was easy. A frustrating point was that I was worried about it the whole round, had to focus on putting my clubs down so gently, and carry the clubs upside down while walking.

Downloading a course was easy and start was easy, but it did start on the wrong course today even though I only told it to download one (Where I played there are two courses). I played my first hole before I realized and you can't move it over. That's frustrating. [excuse the italics, not on purpose but something isn't working right]
Not decided whether to try again or just send it back, but again, if all you want it distance and score tracking it is great. You just have to deal with the other issues.

B.A. great feedback.  I've been going round and round thinking about Arccos and purchasing it and using it.  Your problems were exactly the ones I expected using it.  Interestingly enough, I followed Billy Ho during the Pro-Am at the Waste Management.  I didn't know about Arccos or that he was a big supporter of it, but what I did notice is that he was constantly fiddling with his iPhone after "every" shot and discussing this with his caddy.  He seemed to be pre-occupied by his phone and in retrospect, it was his use of Arccos during the round.  I thought to myself, this pre-occupation seemed to me detrimental as it was putting his focus on his device and not on his game.  This is the one reason that I am not going to purchase Arccos even if it was free.  I want my focus to be where it belongs.  There is nothing to me that this device gives you that you can't do yourself with minimal effort.  Anyway, thanks for helping me make my decision and good luck to all!  Vern

I ended up only playing with it once. It's not for me. It's a great idea and great if that's what you want, but I'm happier just using what I have already. Yes, I ended up fiddling more and had to make sure all the time that it didn't register an additional shot. Then, when I miffed a shot and needed to add one, it was even more of a pain. I just sent it back.

This still isn't for me, but if anyone is interested they sent me a discount email for friends and family... You are all friends. Go to: http://www.arccosgolfvip.com/ Use code FF2015 Put my name (Ben Aslan) I may get an iTunes gift card if you do, but I'd post this even if I didn't.

Thanks for the review.  I never thought about it recording a shot accidentally.  It sounds like there are still a few quirks to work out, but I guess that's expected with any new technology.  I like it's potential, but it sounds like it's something I'll wait to see what improvements come along before making the leap.

I received Game Golf as a Christmas gift and finally was able to try it for 9 holes in Florida a few weeks back. I can say that I really like it so far. I built the tap of the device into my pre shot routine and it was easy to remember. Once youndoneload the round it is easy to edit the round if needed before "signing" it so it is complete.  In looking at the stats that will be available I think this will help me tremendously.  At 199 I think it would be a worthwhile investment for golfer really trying to look at what your strengths and weaknesses are. I can update after more use if the weather ever gets better here in Upstate New York!

The replies are interesting on Game and Arccos,   I'm glad I chose the direction of Zepp,  I want to work on my game at the range, not the course.

The visual; feedback it gives is fantastic, every plane is visible

I know how I'm swinging, each and every shot, every club,  the history reports are good to see that I'm getting the work in each week.

How I'm turning, swing speed. hip movement etc.  You can use either a iPhone or iPad, get a HDMI out cable and see results on big screen,

You don't even have to use a ball, if inside w/o net.  In the yard it's good to use with Birdie Ball.

You can record video of your swing  if you want.   additionally there are video swing tips on every part of the swing if you desire.

149.00 at Apple store or online,   If you play tennis or softball,  all you need is adapter for that sport.

    Mike
