Please help me understand how Titleist does a ball fitting.  Last year our local rep gave me a sample sleeve of Pro V1 and Pro V1x and said to go out and hit them on the course.  That was it.  Another ball mfg does it with a monitor.  So what does Titleist do?  Thanks.

Good question. Our approach when it comes to golf ball fitting is ultimately focused on helping golfers shoot lower scores. Our process starts with the initial selection step where our golf ball fitting team will ask a golfer a few questions to get a better sense of their game.

With that information in hand, they will provide a recommended and alternative golf ball for testing/on-course evaluation.

The on-course evaluation is the crucial step. We encourage players to work green-to-tee during the evaluation process and use our on-course evaluation scorecard. Here's a link to the scorecard: http://media.titleist.com/images/titleist/pdfs/US/2012/2012BF_OnlineScorecard_v3.pdf

The evaluation should start by hitting partial swing wedge shots into the green. The goal is for the golfer to hit a few shots with the recommended golf ball model and then hit a few more shots with the alternative. We ask golfers to mark down the results, compare and contrast the performance between the models and then repeat this process as they work their way through the shots in their bag (i.e. full-swing shots with a short iron, full-swing long-iron shots, full-swing hybrdi/fairway metal, and then driver). At the end of the evaluation, you should have a clear view of which golf ball is best suited for your game.

This is the same process that tour players use when they go through their fitting process and really is the ideal way to get fit for a golf ball.

Madison, WI has a golf-alooza the first weekend of the March at a local indoor batting club. Can't do anything else until the second weekend of April *sigh*. I got new Titlist clubs over the winter and am getting comfortable with them out of the heated trailers ("comfortable" may be an oxymoron...) we have for driving ranges. Will the local rep be doing monitored ball fittings there, indoors?

Did an indoor fitting on a launch monitor at Bullseye GOlf in ABQ about 2 years agao, and found with my high spin (and shallow pockets!) the NXT Tour best for my game. Fast foweard to this spring and I'm 52 and I've tested and found the DT SoLo a better fit budget wise and game wise. The extra few yards off the tee are great and not spinning the ball off the front pin placements a bonus. I like the hop and release of the ball, and can still spin it enough to chip close. Overall, MY best value. Can't find the optic yellow locally - any suggestions??
