I once read that for every 15 degrees below 70 Fahrenheit the distance a golf ball carries is reduced by one club can anyone confirm or correct this?

I played last saturday in 38* weather with 27* wind chill and clubbed up 2 clubs on just about every shot and it worked out about right. The mental aspect is the hardest thing. I usually hit my 8 iron 145 - 155 and trusting that my 6 iron from that distance isn't going to fly the green by 30 yards is hard to do.

I agree.....trusting yourself with such a big change is hard to do.  But after a few holes, it starts to get easier.

I typically club up one club and see how I'm playing and adjust from there.

yes, I have experienced cold weather in tournaments and it does affect the distance the ball goes, but i'm not sure if it's one club for every 15 degrees below 70

I didn't know there was an exact formula, but I drop down at least one club after September. I won a match a few years ago when my opponent did not make the adjustment for the cooler weather. He came up shot 4 times on the first 5 holes, and lost all 4. We were both playing well, but he just mis clubbed due to the weather. Not sure what the outcome would have been otherwise, but I also remember knocking in a 90 yard wedge on the 15th hole for eagle on a par 5 when he was already on the green in 2 staring at an 18 ft putt for eagle to tie the match. He missed his eagle putt, and I hung on.

Yep. Pretty much the same as above. I drop down a club and from V1x to V1. Seems to balance it out for the most part.
