This friday I received my new 714 AP1 irons after checking my ego at the door and buying them to replace my competitors forged blade irons. Fast forward 2 days (April 27) and I finally broke 80 and it was in a college (JUCO) tournament! I posted a 78 at Elm Tree golf club in Cortland, NY. I can thank Titleist for a lot of this because I used the same ProV1x ball throughout the whole round and game 3 vokey wedges and the new irons. Hopefully I can continue breaking 80 this coming weekend and prepare for Regionals which I automatically qualified for today after posting that score!

Congrats Bryan!  Keep working with those new Titleist and get down to low 70's, and good luck at regionals!

  4. Congrats Bryan! You'll do great in Regionals, in my experience the more I play in competition the sharper my game gets!

First off, good job on breaking 80 and continue on.

Checking one's ego at the door often results in better golf.  I broke 80 last year (I generally score around 85-88) using a 9 wood on the par 5s and an A flex driver. I hear some guys saying "I'm too young to be using a 7 wood" and then the BK says in a "Playing Lessons From the Pros" episode that he would have won at least one more Masters if he carried a 9W in his bag.  Even LT told people to toss the 3 iron and use a 6 wood back in the good ole days of real fairway woods.  Even Steve Stricker carries a 5-27 Titleist hybrid and he is a golf pro!   There are a few LPGA players that carry 11 woods and 6 iron hybrids; consider that #68 in driving distance is 253 yards on their tour and her scoring average is 70..... (17 yo girl that just turned pro).

Great job, Bryan... good for you and best of luck in the Regionals!  I'm a Cortland grad so I'll be rooting for you and your teammates.  I also have a new set of AP1's and am really enjoying them as well.  The game sure is a lot of fun when your striking the ball well, 'eh?
