    I've been playing Titleist for 40 years now,

    My formibable years I played the balata and with my sandwedge, the r 90 I could hit the ball with a descending blow making a divot about 1 inch beyond the ball and create alot of spin... With the prov1  I'm not getting the same results from 20 yards and in... Is it my imagination or should I be changing my angle of attack to create more spin???? I.E. a shallower angle of attack??? Not knowing the best way to create maximum spin from 20 yards and in has been frustrating... The prov1 seems to be coming off my sandwedge quicker than the balata's did...

    Kevin, I too played the tour balata for a lot of years and it is a total different ball then the pro v. I still have a few of them and hit them every once in a while for fun. They are very soft compared to a pro v. Make your attack angle such that you catch the ball before your club makes its divot and the pro v will spin very well for you. Not that I can do it every time but, that is just my two cents. Good luck and God Bless...

    These Pro v's won't let me cross the center of gravity of the golf ball like the Balata's did... When I try and do that  It feel like I hit it thin, or skinny... The pro v just doesn't seem to hold on the club like the balata's...

    Am I the only 1 who has noticed this difference while chipping??? What is the optimal way to chip a pro v,,, creating maximum spin???

    Kevin, you're certainly right about that.  I remember the balatas, I loved 'em, particularly for putting. Seemed like it stayed on the clubface for days.

    I'm by no means an expert, but I'll say the same thing my instructor tells me.  Focus on a good shoulder turn, crisp at impact, and don't push, otherwise the ball will ride up the clubface.  It works for those short chips and I've been getting the spin I need.  A quick bounce or two, then it checks. 

    I play a Pro V1x or NXT Tour, depending on how willing I am to part with my money.

    No, I don't think it is your imagination, as I have the same experience and frustration on those short shots to the green.

    I have another question that I hope to have answered.  What is the shelf life of the Pro Vi.  Does  the NXT tour Have the same shelf life?

    Thanks for whatever enlightenment you can provide me on the shelf life situation.

    Back in the day the balls used to spin more than they do now in general. Not to mention the groove change that took a few hundred rpms off as well from the rough. I found a Balata ball, probably dead but I was able to get a few hundred more rpm's with that ball than with the current pro V's. So yes it's not just your imagination.
