I also tested the new ball posted my observations at the web site provided in the box I received them in (titleist.com/ballpanel2), the instructions indicated that I would need my team titleist username & password to login and complete the survey however these were not actualy required. I completed the survey but want to be sure that I responded to the correct place. I thought the ball felt much like a Pro V1X off of the tee with the driver but felt a little softer more workable with medium iron play and more like a regular Pro V1 chipping and putting.

    Hi David,

If you were able to access the survey directly by following the link provided you were already logged into Team Titleist. You are only prompted to enter you username and password if you are not logged in, so you should be all set.  Thanks for taking the time to complete the test panel and finish the survey, we appreciate it.

    RE Ballpanel2,
The ball had noticeably more distance off the tee by 10 to 15 yards, and yet had exceptional spin for shots 100 yards and out.Landed softly for pitch shots and chips, and checked well on long iron shots. The ball had a good feel but almost felt like you didn't get all of it on some shots.

I think that's a pretty fair statement. To me this ball felt like a combination of the old ProV1X and the Penta ball with exceptional durability. I think Titleist could have a winner. :)

    Hi guys,

Thanks for all of the feedback and great questions. Unfortunately all of the test golf balls were sent out last month. In terms of the selection process, we do our best to include as many Team Titleist members as possible in these exclusive opportunities like the golf ball test panels but unfortunately we are unable to include everyone in every opportunity.

However, the more you participate and the more engaged you are with Team Titleist, from posting here in the discussions and adding blog comments to completing your profile, the better your chances are at potentially opening the doors to Team Titleist rewards, including the opportunity to participate in future product test panels, take part in exclusive sweepstakes and attend one-of-a-kind events.

We're excited to offer more of these Team Titleist perks in the future to our most dedicated members.

So where on the website do we go to learn about the product test panels, and sign up for things of that nature?  Sorry new member, just trying to get the lay of the land.

    Sir,

I received a sleeve of golf balls October 5, 2010 but have not the chance to test until recently. I tried to log on to web site in letter without success.

I was excited to break open the box and compare to Pro V 1x and Noodle.

I noticed the most difference in the short game from 100 yds in. Because of my budget I buy Noodle but after using the prototype ball I may need to re-budget in order to keep Titleist in the bag.

Drive edge Noodle my fade was tighter

    Long irons no difference

Mid irons slight edge Noodle they seem to bite better

Around the green * sand traps * fringe Tiltiest

    Putting Titliest

Two holes same length par 5 score Titliest 2 strokes better 4 -6

Much thanks for allowing me to be a tester. If the prototype were on market - heck with the budget - Titliest!!

    Regards,

While I have played almost exclusively the ProV1x for the past 3 years (ProV1 prior to that), I was given a dozen TaylorMade Penta about 6 weeks ago and gave them a try. I found their performance was virtually identical to the performance I was getting from the ProV1x. The one significant advantage of the PENTA... it didn't scuff nearly as badly as the ProV1x on cartpath bounces from driver distance. I play at Atkinson Country Club in NH and they have asphalt cartpaths everywhere. The scuff we get from a cartpath is referred to as the "Atkinson Logo"!

I unfortunately didn't get the prototype in play before the weather turned cool, but I played it on Nov. 6th, mid-fifties, but I kept the balls indoors with my bag the night before, so the cold didn't affect it too much. I normally take an extra club in cooler weather. I had many shots go a bit long, despite the cool air. As a 3-4 index, I expect to be close to par fairly regularly, but at nearly 48 years old I don't hit it as far as I used to. I turned in a 1-under 71 with the prototype ball, so I'm looking forward to using it next Spring when it warms up! Thank you!

    Mike,

I also received the prototype balls and evaluated them. I cannot log onto my account because I no longer use that email. How can I keep the same profile and change my email login? Can you help and  change the email and password for me or just send my password to me and I will change it. Thanks

I just finished playing the prototype ball (panel2) over 36 holes and must say I was very impressed with it. Great putting feel and it definitely shaved strokes off my normal score with it's short game stopping ability on the greens. It blew away the Pinnacle Gold that I compared it against. Can I get more of these prototypes!

I really loved the prototype ball. It drove long yet had great feel. The dimple pattern was interesting. I played today and used one of the test balls I had already played 36 holes with. It's very durable. I hope they hit the shelves just like they came out of the box I got! Thanks Team Titleist!

Well gentleman and ladies, thanks for allowing me to be a part of your testing. Several in my group have received test balls. Some the x and some the prov1. I commented on the survey but thought the survey left a little to be desired as far as all that could be said. The test ball was magnificant  as usual, I noticed some lower ball flight, only a yard or two in distance, and with my long irons it seemed to roll out more in the green. Dont get me incorrectly ,, i Did like the ball. As far as the box,,,,, make it a stern traditional, Titeist needs not make the box stand out like a bull in a china shop,  its the best and a player will find it.  Now with fall upon us I might like to see a bright yellow for seasonal play.. I bet even the pros would play it,,, color does not reflect , harm or change performance so it really makes it easier to see in the fall winter months.

Next time , better check your links before you print all of the letters and that might just have prevented the thousands of "I cant use the link" emails.. lol...

This ball testing does create discussions all over the golf industry from amatures to pros. It,  I am sure for the cost,  far outweighs the expense to test them this way. Contragulations, I think it is a media coo!

Ok, we know the USGA regulates the distance a ball can go based on traditional testing. We know the limits they place on clubs to control ball and distance. So any manufacturer with in legal tolerences cannot make a ball fly further., You may say the nxt or prov goes further, but neither goes any different that usga standards,. Now my club head speed and face angle may be more than my friend beside me which may make it go further, but by Iron Byron standards there will not be a lot of difference. Feel is individual preference. Different balls have different feel.

The ball was definitely like the pro v1x. Its length was right on par with maybe a little bit more. THE biggest difference was BY FAR durability. I know Titleist has been getting shunned for its lack of durability and chew marks. So I am positive that they are trying to address that problem. By far, the best pro v1 i have played though.

  23. Jarrod, you are absolutely correct with your analysis.  I have been disappointed with Titleist for the past several years.  As a low single digit handicap working amatuer, the last thing I can afford is new balls every two weeks.  The original Pro V1 could withstand almost anything.........cart paths, bladed wedges, dog bites, etc........  I would take the ball out of play b/c it would turn YELLOW.  Durability has been sacrificed for years in the development of the newer generation Pro V1 (and now V1 x).

Played 36 holes and I have noticed the first durabiltiy improvement since the original.  Thank you Titleist for creating a ball for the working amatuer.  I will be less apt to "try"competitor balls during the season.

I normally play the ProV1X ball. The test ball preformed very similiar to the ProV1X. I had a different sound when it left the club. I really didn't notice a change in distance.  It didn't spin as musc as the ProV1X. I still prefer the ProV1X.

Same here. Sound affects overall feel and I did not like the way the test ball sounded off of irons, and especially the putter.  Ball did not back up as much as the PROV1X either on short irons.  The short game is where this ball underperformed.  Chipping did not have as much stopping power of the PROV1X and I found myslef having difficulty determining how far to allow for roll out.  With the "X" you can literally piutch the ball to the hole with a hop and stop control ability.

Driving was great and overall I liked the flight of the ball but still prefer the PROV1X I usually play.  I am a 2 handicap and think this ball performed more like an NXT Tour type of ball.  Great for a mid range handicapper but not a ball to score with for a low handicapper with a variety of shots.

I'm curious if I received the wrong TEST golf balls to review.  Based upon the reviews on this thread, my experience was drastically different than anything I've read thus far.  I normally play the Pro V1x, have for the past several years.  This ball felt clunky off the face, traveled shorter distances, more difficult to control on approach shots.  Overall, a really bad golf experience, which is unusual for me and my Titleist products.   It got so bad at one point, I had to ask my playing partners if it was operator error (they said no....and they've played golf with me for close to 18 years now).

Good luck with the testing, Titleist, but I hope and pray this isn't the new golf ball for the spring.

just finshed playing the black numbered balls these are awesome the durabilty was better i have new vokeys and theses barely scared like my prov1s the spin is not as much as the prov1 and overall distances was great about 5-10 yards farther hit 2 monsters with them one 327 and another 333 on gps cant wait for these to come out thanks Titleist for another great product

I had a different experience with the Black ball. I found that the ball spun more than the current production ball.  I loved the feel with the short shots, the added spin was nice.  it reminded me of the "Professional,"soft, lots of spin, high launch.

    Hi,

Will there be a summary posted of all of the surveys for Team Titleist members to read?  I'm just curious to see what everyone reported.  I seem to be one of the few that didn't get any noticable extra distance compared to the other balls I played with.  I was impressed with the cover and it felt good coming off the putter, but was disappointed when I didn't get length like others were reporting (I got the red number).  I'm hoping it was because I was playing in cooler MN weather at the time. Thanks, Cathy

Yeah, I said the same thing in my testing of the ball... I thought they might call it the Pro V2x Ha! Ha! well sounds good anyway. I sure wish they would send us a dozen of them for testing the ball, that would be GREAT!!! I just love that ball. I normally play the Pro V1x.

I just had the same experience where the username and password were not required to complete survey.

I enjoyed the testing process and my biggest surprise was how much I noticed and preferred the Prototype 2 ball off the putter

compared to the DT Solo, NXT Tour S and Pro V1x. Didn't see that coming!

  37. I tested this ball as well.  Found the ball to play very good in the wind.  Also the ball seemed a bit longer off the tee than the 2012 pro v1x for me.  The ball responded well off of short irons as well as being able to suck the ball back a few feet with my 4 iron. (cant do that with previous model)  All in all the ball played very well and I am happy with the changes I noticed.

I ALSO TESTED THE NEW PROTOTYPE TITLEIST BALL AND FOUND THAT IT WAS SLIGHTLY LONGER AND PERFORMED BETTER IN THE WIND.I ALSO FELT THAT IT CAME OFF THE PUTTER WITH MUCH BETTER FEEL .
