  1. Apparently, I am on a beta test list with Titleist R&D golf ball testing process. Received a sleeve of prototype golf balls from them today. The balls say Titleist but it is marked 'TEST'. There was no description of what it is supposed to do....low spin distance, distance & control, high spin control, etc... And no details about compression. All,it said was to try them and answer the survey to follow later.

i feel like I  am flying blind with no expectations and not knowing what to look for.

That is the idea of the test.  If you had more information it would bias your opinion of the ball.  This way you just pay it and see. ?..

I couldn't agree more. I received a sleeve on Saturday 10/26/13.   I played them on Sunday and carded my first ever hole-in-one.  The test balls performed extremely well. They flew longer, were very workable, and had great feel off the putter.  I truly enjoyed the test balls and can't wait to try more.  I would also really like to know what this this test ball is so I can purchase them when and if they become available.

Thanks Titleist for all you do for all of us!

Compare it to your current favorite.  Try it like it was a Titleist ball fitting session (sample available under golf balls on the Titleist site) and rate the 2 against each other from green to tee.  If you knew if it was a DT Solo or NXT Tour, you'd have biased expectations.  How does it feel on a putt, how does it sound when struck, does it carry further, side spin more, check better, etc.

Anyone not using ProV's is counting on you.....

that's exactly what they are probably looking for.  No expectations, just your honest evaluation.  Would love to give them a go myself.  Sounds exciting.

They intentionally do not give you the desired effects of the ball in these blinds test as you will "look" for them.  If they tell you it 's a lower flying high spin ball you will tend to look for these in your shots and agree with them.  What they are looking for you to do is play this ball under normal conditions, ideally as a second ball to you current ball, and compare them via the survey.  This is how they determine if the desired affects they engineered are being seen and enjoyed on typical rounds of golf.

I'm excited to here you got another sleeve this year.  Hopefully, I will receive a sleeve in the near future as I have in the past.

Why? All you need to look for is the results of the balls they sent you. It’s a gift and a cool thing to do. Sometimes it's best not knowing and just giving good honest feedback but it's likely whatever you have in your profile. Enjoy it. I did last year and still have two of the test balls they sent me a year later. Nice perk!

    Ron,

That is sort of the point of testing, not knowing what to expect.  Compare them the way they asked you to and have fun with it :)

That's kinda of the idea Ron, Titliest does not want you to have a preconceived notion as to what the ball might do.

I also received a sleeve in today's mail.  Black markings with a dark red number and the word "Test" on the alignment line.

  14. I received some yesterday too and I'm looking forward to trying them out. I just plan to play them and see how they compare to what I play now (NXT Tour).

  15. Everyone. Thanks for the comments. I will have fun with them hopefully once in chilly Michigan and then in sunny south Florida hopefully within the next 15 days. My test balls were all marked in black.

Hmmm. wondering if this follows the old practice of red being mid compression and black being high compression.  Yeah, I know.......everyone tells me I read too much golf stuff. I need to relax and play my own game.

A buddy of mine got a sleeve last year and we tested together. Only downside to using the test ball is you will most likely love it and do anything to find it and hold onto it!  We climbed fences, went knee high into water, fought off angry geese and spent many more minutes over what the rules allow to find this trophy test ball when mother nature took her off course. Obviously it wasn't our swing! The 2013 Pro-V was the best Pro-V ever... can't wait to hit the 2014! I keep my trophy as a reminder of those special test days and the memories of doing whatever it took to keep her in the bag. Enjoy!

LOL!! Obviously mine got in that shape because of the angry goose... who by the way is a new fan of the pro-V as well. He tried to keep mine!

Real Reason for the dirt... I didn't want to clean off all the good memories.  Guess we'll have to wait until January to test the 2014 on our frost bit greens - oh yay!

Mine arrived this weekend...looking forward to getting out later this week, and hitting them along with my usual balls...that's plural because of the number I generally can "misplace" during a round...we'll see how these are compared to an NXT or bstone.

I like the "no details" part, we'll just have to judge their performance based on pure observation...no expectations of "soft" or "a rock"...

makes the whole experience a bit more fun

Received mine last week. I play the NXT Tour S and they look a lot like them. It's quite cold in NE Wisconsin now, so I am waiting for a few warmer days soon to try the test balls out. I will be leaving for Florida later December and hope I have one or two left to try there. Since I am a slicer and not a digger I don't put a lot of spin on the ball, hence the NXT Tour S works just as well as the Pro V 1 for me. CraigerP

  21. It turned cold here in Michigan. Did not have a chance to try them here. Now heading to south Florida. Looking forward to hitting them down there.

Ah, this last Wednesday temps in 50's got out to try the proto type NXT Tour Soft (i think). Played the current model and the "test" model side by side. I didn't hit many drives, but, the "test" model felt a bit firmer than the current model and maybe went a tad further. Mid fairways and irons felt about the same. Short Irons pitching and chipping the "test" ball felt a bit firmer. The "test" ball definitely  felt crisper off the putter about like the ProV1. Oh, and on the bounce test the "test" ball bounced about 1" higher than current model NXT-S.

  31. I finally was able to test my Titleist prototype golf balls. Enjoyed them very, very much. Here is what I wrote overall at the end of the evaluation form. (I think it is okay to share this.)

“I consider this prototype to be one big game improvement ball overall. I played on a par 3 executive course in Boynton Beach, FL, and then at Osprey Point's Raven and Falcon courses in Boca Raton, FL.  At Osprey Point, using the prototype, I played the best round I had in the last 12 months. I shot an 88 which is about 10-12 strokes less than my normal. Would really like to know what this ball will be called cause I would like to buy them.”

I am a 20 handicapper normally.  I got distance and great ball control with my short game.

Forgive me for the minor panic! As a last resort,  I did a "refresh" on the survey webpage and my survey was restored to 97% complete, where I was, when the webpage timed out.

This will surely happen to others! I accidentally found a solution.
