I just got an email from Golf Digest, with a video by Nick Nardacci, Titleist aerodynamics expert. It explains why dimples are on a golf ball & their effects on the flight of the ball. According to Nick,  "A lot of people think a ball without dimples will fly further. Conversely its kind of like a knuckleball, it really doesn't know where it's going, it's predominantly driven by drag force."
