    Hello All,

I am a HS golf coach. Its time to put in the requisition for equipment we will need in the upcoming season. The past few years we have been successful, and have used the Pro V1 and Pro V1 X.

This season we will have some younger players and I just don't see the need to give these younger players the pro v1 and X at the cost it takes. Still going to get the team some of those, but what I am looking for is whats the recommendation for some HS freshman and sophomore players who are newer to the game?

I am thinking Velocity and/or NXT balls. Just wanted your thoughts from TT!

This comment made me laugh because when I played high school golf back in late 80s/early 90s our coach got us Ult golf balls, we got one sleeve for each match.

Marc W I laughed also. As a Freshman playing Varsity in 1989 I got to play Tour Balatas. One tournament we played in every year was an overnight stay. Only upperclassmen were allowed to go, so I had to stay back and play a JV match. We were all given 2 DT Titleist to play with, instead of a sleeve of Balatas. I gave mine to another Freshman and played my own ball. I remember to this day feeling like I got sent down to the minors.

Coach, here are my thoughts on your ball issue. The new Trusoft is an awesome golf ball. I am playing it now while it is cold and I haven't had any issues with it. As crazy as this sounds, the feel and sound of a ball matters to me. The NXT Tour balls are pretty good too. I don't think you will go wrong with either ball. If you have a few good players, I would still suggest getting them Pro V1's of their choice. I think the ball is a very important part of a good golfer.

    Good luck this season!

I'd go with the new TruSoft if I were you. They'll perform better than the Velocity and NXT, and cost a good bit less, too. In fact, you can probably get a discount on last year's DT SoLo balls, the predecessor to the new TruSoft.

I don't think you can go wrong with the NXT Tour (which some call the poor man's Pro V1X). It is a great ball for HS players. I also coach HS golf and our players often can't tell the difference when asked.

NXT. Awesome ball, and they won't know the diff.

NXT Tour or Pro V1x would be my thought.
