Looking for a little advice for my new driver.  Currently own a 910 D3 with the Ahina '70  Shaft X Flex.  Looking at ordering a new 913 D3 with the Ahina 80 X flex, and was wondering if tipping the shaft would help increase the overall stiffness of the shaft.  It was suggested to me to tip the shaft to decrease the launch angle and spin rate.  I love the combination I have right now, but would like some more info.

    Thanks

    Hey Jeff-

If you are looking to decrease both launch and spin, moving to a stronger loft will have a greater impact than using a stiffer shaft tip.  What is the loft of your current driver?

Current loft is 8.5.  New driver loft would be 7.5.  Sorry.  Should have included that as well.

A great place to start would be with your 'ahina 70X in the 913D3 7.5 head.  If launch and spin still need to be lowered, then it might be time to look at different shaft and/or shaft tipping options.  Give us a call at 1-888-TITLEIST or reply in this thread if you'd like help finding a fitter near you to help with this process before placing your order.

I went to a local fitter this past week, but they had a very limited number of X flex shafts.  That's where I got the suggestion to tip an X flex to decrease the launch angle and spin rate.

If you are anywhere near a Titleist Regional fitting center, go.  I drove 2 hours and it was worth it.  I also need an x-flex shaft and prior to going there I had to guess on a shaft.  They should have a bunch of x-flex shafts to choose from.

I will be in the San Diego area towards the end of January or February.  That would be my first chance before next year.  Any good suggestions for the area would be appreciated.

If you are going to be here in San Diego, we would recommend that you come to our Tour facility in Oceanside, CA.

We have a state of the art facility in Oceanside with fairways, greens, and our wedge and bunker area where Bob Vokey does his work with players.  They use a Trackman launch monitor to gap and check numbers so that you can be assured that you have the correct club selection and our dedicated fitters work with both our Tour players as well as with the consumers that come in, so they are very experienced fitters.  Our Tour facility will also have all the heads that are offered and almost every shaft that is offered in our custom matrix.

We offer three separate fittings:  Driver/Fairway, Hybrid/Irons and a Wedge fit that can be done individually or all together.  Most players that come to our facilities are used to hitting balls and do all three together, but it depends on the individual.   Each fitting takes about an hour (or 3 hrs for the bag, minus putter).  When the fitting is complete, we will email all the details of the fit to you and your pro (if you wish) and you can order your clubs at whatever shop that you choose.  The fitting fee is a fitting fee only and does not go toward the purchase of clubs.  Oceanside fits Monday through Friday at 9am or 1pm. The cost is $200 per fitting or $500 for all three and you can reserve your fitting appointment by calling us at Team Titleist at 1-888-TITLEIST or by calling 1-888-262-7202 and talking with Andy.
